Heartwell Park will have the help of local Democrats and a national Democratic group called Democrats Work on Saturday, July 28th as they put their political values into action. Partnering with the national chapter of Democrats Work and the Democratic National Committee (DNC), volunteers from the Adams County Democrats will be cleaning up the historical park from 8-10 am. This event is timed to coincide with the DNC’s second annual “Democratic Reunion” where nationwide Democrats are spending the day making a positive difference for the environment.

“The idea behind our project on Saturday is to encourage and organize civic participation by Democrats in our community” according to Jane Fleming Kleeb, an Adams County Democrat. “We’re putting our political beliefs into action and offering our community a new type of politics – a politics of service – where individuals can make a real difference. It’s our hope that this is but the first of many such projects by area Democrats to make Hastings a city of service-oriented action."

“The Heartwell Park Historic District is one of the more recognizable and often visited areas in the community of Hastings and serves a large segment of our population with the walking trail, wading pool, fishing pond and many family gathering areas,” said Councilwoman Kathy Peterson. “We thought there was no better place to demonstrate our commitment to our environment and to making positive changes for our community than to spend time giving this park the attention it deserves.”
