Bush: "We're Just In A Rough Patch." According to the Los Angeles Times, President Bush said, "The fundamentals are strong," Bush said. " We're just in a rough patch , as witnessed by the employment figures today. And I'm confident we can get through this rough patch."¹

McCain: "This is A Rough Patch." While speaking at a Fox News Republican debate, McCain said, "I believe the fundamentals of this economy are strong, and I believe they will remain strong. This is a rough patch , but I think America's greatness lies ahead of us."²
