The double standard I speak of is the Hillary standard vs. the standard of the rest of the world. Yes there is sexism.  And yes it raised its ugly head agains Hillary in this campaign.

But Hillary lost, not because of sexism as many such as Sascha Millstone would like to pertetuate and present Hillary as some martyr.  Hillary lost because of her campaign strategy and the devisiveness within her own camp. To say that she lost because of sexism is in my opinion an insult to women and a discouragement to young girls in particular.  Hillary lost specifically because of her strategy, not sexism.

Sacha Millstone the delegate in CO blames Barack Obama and party leaders for not rallying to Clinton's defense.  And she slams them for trying to nudge the former first lady out of the race.  "That never would have happened if she were a man."

The People, the Press, and the Case for Impeachment

"When our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence they were not worried about political will, how much time there was, or about any parties' political future, they were just worried they were going to be hanged by the neck. But they did what was right. Now it is your time."  Elliott Adams, President, Veterans for Peace, testimony July 25, 2008

Impeachment Step 2

Tell your Representatives to co-sponsor  Rep. Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment:
http://democrats.com/35-articles-of-impeachment

After more than three years of grassroots pressure from true patriots like you, Congress finally took step 1 towards impeaching George W. Bush for his High Crimes by holding a "non-impeachment hearing" last Friday.

Witnesses led by Dennis Kucinich, Elliot Adams, Rocky Anderson, Bob Barr, Vincent Bugliosi, Bruce Fein, Maurice Hinchey, and Elizabeth Holtzman presented an overwhelming case for impeachment. Watch the individual videos and the wrap-up by American News Project.

So what stands in the way of  real impeachment hearings?

1. 228 Democrats (and 199 Republicans) who have not co-sponsored Articles of Impeachment against George Bush. Tell your Representatives to co-sponsor Rep. Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment:
http://democrats.com/35-articles-of-impeachment

2. Key Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee who do not support impeachment.

a. Impeachment Hamlets: Bobby Scott, Zoe Lofgren, and Jerry Nadler believe Bush committed impeachable offfenses, but they are terrified to support impeachment. Call them to find out why they can't make up their minds:
http://www.causecaller.com/wiki/Judiciary_Impeachment_Hamlets

b. AWOL Democrats: These members showed their contempt for the Constitution (and their constituents) by not even attending the July 25 hearing: Howard Berman, Rick Boucher, Artur Davis, Bill Delahunt, Luis Gutierrez, Linda Sanchez, Betty Sutton, Maxine Waters, Anthony Weiner. Call them to find out why they failed to do their jobs - and when they will support impeachment:
http://www.causecaller.com/wiki/Judiciary_Impeachment_AWOL

c. Impeachment opponents: Adam Schiff, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Mel Watt believe none of Bush's High Crimes are impeachable. Call them to find out why they have betrayed their Oath of Office:
http://www.causecaller.com/wiki/Judiciary_Impeachment_Opponents

3. House Democratic "Leaders" who oppose impeachment: Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel, Whip Jim Clyburn, and DCCC chair Chris Van Hollen believe impeachment would hurt Democrats in November. Call them to say serious impeachment hearings will expose Republican High Crimes and help Democrats at all levels:
http://www.causecaller.com/wiki/Democratic_Leaders_Should_Impeach_Bush

4. The Corporate Media

Despite six hours of in-depth hearings, there was no substantive coverage in any Corporate Media outlet. Call your favorite TV/radio talk shows and write to your favorite newspaper to demand coverage of impeachment.

House Justice Committee Hears Kucinich Resolution

Direct from the hearing

Michael Collins
"Scoop" Independent News
Washington, DC Part 1

Today's hearing on the abuse of presidential powers before the House Committee on the Judiciary turned into a devastating political ambush by Chairman John Conyers (D-MI), committee Democrats, and the extraordinary panel of witnesses.. At least 12 Democratic Committee members were present plus the Chairman while only four Republicans bothered to show up.

Impeachment Resolution: First Reading Today

 July 15, 2008

Dear Friends,

This afternoon, at approximately 5 p.m. (EDT), the Clerk of the House of Representatives will give the first reading of the Article of Impeachment of President George Bush. Article One charges the President with deceiving Congress with fabricated threats of Iraq WMDs to fraudulently obtain support for an authorization of the use of military force against Iraq.

Once the Clerk reads the bill, I will move to refer the bill to the Judiciary Committee for hearings. I believe the American people have a right to an open airing of the charges against this President. Did he or did he not lie to take us into a war? I believe the evidence is overwhelming that President Bush knew that Iraq was not an imminent threat, was not in possession of WMDs at the time, and had nothing to do with 911 or with al Queda's role in 911. And yet, despite having facts to the contrary, he took the U.S. into war with devastating consequences for our troops, our nation, and the people of Iraq. Congress must hold hearings.

There can be no greater offense of a President or a Commander in Chief than to conjure a war based on lies to Congress, to the troops, and to the people of America.

I love our country with all my heart and I intend to persist until America is America again.

Please contact your friends and neighbors and ask them to go to our website at www.Kucinich.us and sign the impeachment petition. Thank you for your continuing support and for your love of our country and its people.

Sign the petitionSincerely,

Dennis

As I mentioned in a previous post, I came home yesterday after work and switched on C-span to see Kucinich delivering testimony once again regarding why Bush should be impeached.

I'm encouraged on this for two reasons.  I've watched all of the Honorable Kucinich's previous presentations on impeachment for Cheney and for Bush; however, I found this one encouraging on two accounts:  1) the people in chambers applauded when Kucinich concluded his remarks--to the point that the presiding officer had to call for order and 2) Speaker Pelosi said on Thursday that the House Judiciary Committee may hold hearings on an impeachment resolution offered by Kucinich.  This clearly signals a new willingness to at least entertain the notion of kicking Bush out.

However, I've become so cynical of our Congress that I'm inclined to think that this new declaration of Pelosi's is likely nothing more than the good cop/bad cop routine that the Democrats and Republicans play against the people.  (Now that there is little chance of impeachment being implemented before the jackasses' term runs out, we can begin our impeachment proceedings.)  Impeachment proceedings should have begun in April of 2007 when Kucinich first filed.

Following is part of the text of his speech in the House yesterday afternoon late:

[decided to qualify it.]  :) as we have so many opinons on this site and I'm fine with them all, even the ones I disagree with..

I was in meetings all morning and half the afternoon and thus I've been unplugged from the DNC site as well as  c-span and other ongoing news.

About 5 pm eastern time I tuned in to C- span and low and behold my darling Kucinich was on and reading articles of impeachment live (This was not a replay from last month.)  YEA!  A  man who keeps his word (where can I get more? I know sexist but I don't care, sue me.)  I'll have to check out Kucinich's site to get the details on what he was doing.  I do know that he promised 30 days ago to return in 30 days if the House did not act on the 35 articles of impeachment that he filed against Bush and that he would bring 60 more.

THAT WAS ONE PIECE OF PROMISED GOOD NEWS AND NOW HERE IS THE SECOND:

(FORGIVE ME if it has been posted already today as I didnt' see it.)

THE ACLU  and others filed a law suit this morning against Congress and the government for the FISA bill.

YEA!   I'll get more information on this later or please if any one has details on this please post the details for me. and/or refer me to links.

BEST TO YOU ALL

In light of what we now know that this this administration has done, not only against the citizens of the USA, but also the world, it is irresponsible to not move forward as soon as possibld and impeach both Cheny and Bush. They still have six months in which to do a lot of damage.  Let's neutralize their power now.

Kucinich: Impeachment Not "Off the Table"

by: Christopher Kuttruff, t r u t h o u t | Report

Congressman Dennis Kucinich spoke Tuesday to Truthout about his impeachment resolution. (Photo: Getty Images)

While Congressional leaders silently opt to table impeachment articles against President Bush, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) vows to speak out and keep the articles alive and in the public conscience. Kucinich spoke on Tuesday to Truthout about his resolution.

Last week the House voted 251-166 to refer Kucinich's articles of impeachment to committee - an action that most political analysts view as a desire by the Congressional leadership to bury the resolution. Kucinich, however, promised to keep impeachment from being swept "off the table" in order to provide a historical record of the Bush administration's policies.

Perhaps we have it already and if we do, can someone please point me to its location on the DNC site.  If we don't, I would like to suggest that the web developers of this site create a place where the latest important  bills before the Congress are posted.  (I know I can go to the US Congress/Senate sites but I mean something that is simpler and more like a summary and index.

1. New GI BILL - Status: with Bush for signing?  Expected outcome?

2. FISA Bill--Status: in Senate for final approval before being sent to Bush.
Expected outcome: Pass with no change on Monday June 23 and send to Bush who will sign it.

3. IMPEACHMENT --Articles have been filed by Kucinich on both Cheney and Bush.
Tabled and shelved in the House Judiciary committee.  Pelosi says permanently.Kucinich says if a vote is not taken in 30 days that he will add 60 more articles to Bush's impeachment charges.

Here are the Bills that I would like to track at the moment:

1.  THE NEW GI BILL has passed both houses of Congress--H.R. 5740 in the House and S. 22 in the Senate--but it still has a way to go before enactment, according to Patrick Campbell, legislative director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, a group that supports the new GI Bill. In an e-mail, Campbell writes: "The GI Bill was a provision of the war supplemental [funding bill that] passed both houses of Congress with overwhelming majorities. Since there are two versions of the funding bill, the House will be considering the supplemental again this week [2-6 June] and will probably vote early next week [9-13 June]." Campbell adds: "The bill [will] not be sent to a conference committee in order to avoid some procedural hurdles associated with conference reports. Instead, the bill will be ping-ponged back and forth between the House and the Senate till the same bill passes both houses."

Once a final bill is passed by Congress, it needs the president's signature, and President George W. Bush has threatened to veto the legislation. Science Careers will update the status of the new GI Bill on the Science Careers Blog.

I just came across this and thought you might be interested.  The headline is not exactly  accurate according to the healthcare newspeak that twist "universal" to mean that everyone would have to pay a private healthcare insurer.  It this headline were corrected it would read "Single Payer" in place of Universal since it is referring to a Single Payer healthcare bill that has been shelved in the House now for over a year and a half.

But still I think this is noteworthy in that it indicates that it has not been forgotten.  This was the healthcare plan supported by Dennis Kucinich.

SF: NEWSOM SIGNS RESOLUTION ENDORSING UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE BILL

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom signed a resolution this morning in support of legislation that would establish a nationwide universal health insurance program.

HR 676, dubbed the United States National Health Insurance Act, was introduced by U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., in 2003. The bill strives to create single-payer health insurance program that would be publicly financed and privately delivered, improving the Medicare program.

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who authored the resolution that urges the U.S. House of Representatives to begin hearings on HR 676, said at today's event, "The American people have been squeezed.''

Rose Ann DeMoro, executive director of the California Nurses Association, attended the news conference along with several members of the CNA.

"The nurses are leading this movement across the country,'' she said.

CNA representatives, families of those who have lost loved ones who were without health insurance and others were scheduled to protest insurance companies and advocate single-payer health care programs at Fourth and Howard streets in San Francisco at noon today. The protest is one of many nationwide, according to the CNA.

Most Americans don't know the half of what Bush has done against the citizens of this country.  And remember, John McCain plans to pick up where Bush left off.

Among other things, Bush tried to destroy medicare.  You will find details of that in Article Number 30 of his 35 articles of impeachment.

Furthermore, our great American progressive populist, Dennis Kucinich, also promises that if the House Judiciary Committee has not acted on the first 35 articles of imeachment that he will come back in one month with 60 more!

GO DENNIS KUCINICH--MY FAVORITE AMERICAN POLITICIAN!

Support Dennis in securing his seat in Congress with your contributions.

A friend of mine who does not blog on this site (He is active in the Green Party) sent me this amazing email this morning.

I have been calling my three Congress people almost daily for 3 years here in Texas AND NEVER have I ever actually talked to any one of  then on the phone.

Here is his email along with the phone number for John Conyers who is the head of the House Judiciary Committee who will be the first ones to review the impeachment articles--if it is taken off the table--which it will be if enough of us hound Congress.

________________________________________________________

Hello Liz,  To get the impeachment process going here is John Conyers phone number.

202 225-5126.  I called this morning and John Conyers himself actually answered the phone. He is giving a speech today @ 1:00pm EST on Arab affairs and said he didn't have time to talk to me but took my phone number and said he would call me back(WOW!).  He is head of the judiciary committee to which the articles of impeachment were given to investigate. If you believe the president is held to uphold the constitution, then logic should follow to give Mr. Conyers a call.  Oh, Mr. Conyers told me phone calls don't sway him: it's the logic that the caller presents that he pays attention.

[Re last sentence  ?--whose logic, mine or Conyers LOL.  Also I might add that I sometimes find the logic of my friend more than convuluted. :) ]

Dennis REALLY must not like George.  LOL.   H.Res.333 which Kucinich proposed in the House of Representatives against Cheney on April 24, 2007, which if passed would impeach Cheney on only three charges.  The Bush Impeachment articles were MUCH more expansive--35 in all. LOL.  All the House needs to do is approve one of the articles.  Then it moves to the Senate where 2/3 (of those present--not 2/3s of the entire Senate) have the constitutional authority to try the official for the crime.

After six months without a debate or vote on H Res 333, Kucinich introduced it as a new resolution H.Res. 799 on November 6, 2007.  Like Res 333, 799 was also referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

Then today the House of Representatives voted to send the articles of impeachment against Bush to the Judiciary Committee for Review.  Kucinich pushed for this referral.  The motion passed 251 to 166 with 24 Republicans voting.

Pelosi said that she wants the options to remain "strictly off the table" but we will see if that is honored.

Kucinich is confident that when the committee have time to read the articles that they will agreee that it is appropriate and necessary to begin hearings on the resolution.  Time will tell.

TO GIVE YOU ALL A GOOD IDEA WHERE AMERICANS STAND IN OUR DESIRE TO IMPEACH GEORGE BUSH:

Dennis Kucinich just finished, less thatn 30 minutes ago reading his 35 articles of Impeachment for Bush in the US House of Representatives (11:00 PM CST June 9, 2008) and 591,051 Americans have responded to an online MSNBC poll with 89% selecting "Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial."

Regardless whether Congress acts on these articles of impeachment or not, Dennis Kucinich has nailed George Bush to the wall.  If this doesn't put the fear of God into Bush regarding any intentions regarding him and Cheney instigating a back door attack on Iran through Israel, nothing will.

In addition by reading these articles of impeachment, Kucinich has laid bare once again the voter fraud that was carried out by agents of George Bush (John Blackwell) in the state of Ohio to disinfranchise voters.

The people are now on FULL  alert against not only this administration but the GOP as well.

He is still reading. He is only to the 24 articleLOL--spying on Americans without a Warrant. There are 35 articles in all.   I've been watching it live on c-span now for and hour.  Do you think there is one peep on mainstream news about this?  Heck no.

BUT here is the great part my dears.  I don't recall the number, but one of his articles dealt with ILLEGAL ATTEMPTS TO BEGIN WAR AGAINS IRAN!!!!!

Now I get what he is doing.  He filed the articles as I mentioned on Cheney over a year ago now in April of 2007 and that was tabled.

He said when he left the campaign that he was going to file these articles on Bush when we went back to the Congress in late January, but he never did--Probably discouraged over the lack of response to the articles he filed on Cheney.

BUT HE NOW, LIKE MANY AMERICANS SUCH AS I and thousands of others are very upset and concerned regarding the Bush activities the past two weeks in concert with Israel to attack Iran.  (Did  you call your Congress people on this like I asked this morning?  I hope so.)

The way he has it worded in these articles of impeachment is such that if Bush does go ahead and attack Iran, he will be guity of crimes against humanity.  This filing will give BUSH HUGE PAUSE to reconsider his warmongering BS to IRAQ.

GOD BLESS DENNIS KUCINICH.  He is a true American Hero.  Well I'll return to C-SPAN TO WATCH.

please send money to Dennis for his campaign as Representative.  he needs help He is the bravest and most wonderful of all.

THANK YOU-LIZ

Are you not just a little tired of all the whining and pouting?

Many of us have had "to settle" not once, not twice, but sometimes three times. And each time we made the transition and stayed with the Democratic Party. I don't recall that any of us threatened to go vote for a damn Republican.  I know I didn't--that will be the day!

And many of us went through a lot more unfair treatement of our candidate than either the Hillary or Obama fanatics have had to endure!  Corporate America decided to designate the candidates in "tiers" according to how much money they had--now that's fair, isn't it? Thus our candidates got about three minutes to Clinton, Edwards and Obama's 10 minutes.  It was ridiculous the allocation of time.  Certainly not democratic by any standards.

That's bad enough, but our candidates were treated even more shabbily. Beginning with Gravel, CNNBC owned by the largest war contractor (GE) in the nation told Mike Gravel, 24 hours before the second debate that he could not appear because he had not raised a million dollars.  Isn't that fair now?  How would you have liked it if Hillary were told in the second debate that she could not appear because she didn't have enough money--or for any reason for that matter?  Corporate America dictates who can and cannot appear in our National debate! Did the DNC do anything about that?  Hell no.  Did any of the other candidates (Hillary or Obama for example) refuse to participate, or walk off the stage?  Hell no.  As a citizen, I did all that I could.  I contacted Chuck Todd of NBC, called the DNC, sent letters and called the offices with no responses of all the candidates.  and they all appeared and debated. SHAMEFUL

Was that the end of the crappy biased treatment? NO.  In Iowa, less than 24 hours before the Iowa debate, the The Des Moines Register (a.k.a. Ganett Corporation) called Dennis Kucinich and told him that he could not participate in the debate because he had not had an Iowa based permanent storefront since October 3.  (That debate was in December.  I called the Des Moines Register and asked for a written copy of that rule.  No one could find one for me.  I also asked them if that were the case then why didn't  they have the common decency to notify Kucinich of that the middle of October as opposed to two and a half months later.

Again I contacted the DNC regarding my outrage that once again corporate America was being allowed to dictate who can and cannot participate in a national political debate.  That is so wrong.  Again I called all the other candidates offices and left messages and wrote letters.  Again, all the remaining Democratic candidates participated in the debate as if nothing had happened.

SO TO BOTH HILLARY AND OBAMA FANS:  BUCK Up and stop acting like you are victims.  If we are going to play THAT game then you people are going to have to go to the back of the line because if THAT is the game, there are a lot of us who deserve to be ahead of either Hillary or Obama fans.

WELCOME TO AMERICA where we allow multinational corporations to dictate who can and cannot participate in our national political debates.  The jury is still out on whether we will act like a banana republic and count the votes in a state where one of the two candidate's name was not even on the ballot.  But that would be no worse that the travesty that has already been allowed.  At least more people a paying attention to this one.

and I don't care that I didn't use the extend post. I usually do but I don't feel like being polite this time.

I realize there is more and more talk about the SuperDelegates being the ones that will decide who is nominated, but I have also noticed something else.

All over the country, delegates are assigned at the time of caucuses (i don't know how it works for primaries). These delegates are someone as common as your neighbor. The delegates then go on to a county delegate election, then a state delegate election, then a region delegate election, and then maybe the national delegate vote. (I may be missing a step or two, but the point is made.)

During the delegate elections it is the responsibility of the delegate to vote in agreement with the people they represent. For example, a caucus assigns 5 Obama delegates, 2 Clinton delegates and 1 undecided delegate to go onto the county election. Those delegates are expected to stay in touch with what their neighbors believe and care about. At the county election it is assumed they will vote for the same person they were assigned to (5 Obama, 2 Clinton and the 1 undecided can either pick or stay undecided). After that, it is assumed reasonable for the delegate to change their mind and give their support to a different candidate.

The reason I mention this is because I've been watching the polls and I've noticed something a bit odd. States that have voted - primaries and caucuses - are polling weeks or months after the vote with a different balance of support. A vague example would be a state that showed 57% support for Obama and 40% for Clinton, now shows 52% Obama and 47% Clinton.

This makes me wonder if perhaps, the delegates of the "common people" population won't be the ones that decide the nomination. Not only that, it makes me wonder how many of these "common people" delegates are staying in touch with their neighbors etc and following the campaigns to make sure they vote according to the people they represent and not for the person they agreed to vote for a month or so ago.

A vote for the people is a REAL change.
