ODE TO A BLEEDING HEART
The one factor that contributed most to the downfall of the Democratic Party during during the seventies and eighties was allowing conservative Republicans to seize control of the political rhetoric. The Democrats simply sat back and allowed themselves, their constituency and their agenda to be redefined in the eyes of the American people by conservative "spin doctors" without rebuttal. As a direct result, they've allowed the term "liberal" to become a bad word in the political lexicon. Read More »

What did everyone think of Clinton's first tour through the international circuit? I gotta admit I think she did OK despite the fact that she was a little too pushy with the Russian premieres and such. I am hoping that she gets better and I am sure that she will but it looks like she is going to be a fun and energetic secretary of state.

1 - The Republicans don't have anyone close to Geraldine Ferraro or Hilary Rodham Clinton as serious-minded contenders for the office of President of the United States, which is unfortunate for the GOP because hockey moms are an important demographic and...
2 - I have always suspected that Sarah Palin is neither well-read nor well-travelled which equates to a diminished capacity for critical analysis of complex world issues. Recall that during the Katie Couric interview she couldn't give an answer to what kind of political magazines and newspapers she reads, and mocked the intellectual-types who send their kids off to backpack across Europe. What better way to learn about the world around you?
3 - Sarah Palin is undoubtedly passionate and full of "spunk." But I don't want someone with spunk running the nation. I'd prefer a considerate, strong-willed, intelligent person.
4 - I also suspect that Palin's world view reflects that of a lot of other hockey moms - they know very little about the world around them. Perhaps being overburdened with raising families, running the house, keeping their children safe, and getting kids to and from school leaves little energy or time to consider the woes of the nation and the world beyond the ice-rink, the soccer pitch, or the cul-de-sac. One thing is for certain - the Sarah Palin demographic is a large group, they are a key swing vote, and they send an awful lot of their children into harms way via the military. I desperately want to be wrong about this one. My son shares the pitch with a lot of shiny-eyed, beautiful young people.
QUEEN’S COMMENTS ON Hillary’s New Enthusiasm for Obama
Of all places, I read in the Jarkarta Post last night that Clinton is recruiting her backers to help Obama. According to the Jarkata Post, Hillary Rodham Clinton is stepping up efforts to swing her supporters behind Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, her former rival for the nomination. In an outreach dubbed “Hillary Sent Me,” the New York senator was inviting her primary-season partisans Friday to get involved directly in Obama’s campaign and donate to it. As part of that, she was urging them to travel to a specific battleground state each weekend, beginning with New Hampshire on Sept. 27, when she will be campaigning for Obama in Michigan.
“This is a call to action. This is a must-do. We all have a role. And there is not a moment to lose.”
And why this Johnnie-come-lately enthusiasm for Obama?

Over 438,000 jobs lost
Six months of job loss - worst in 22 years!
â--McCain tax plan - does NOT cover 101 million Americans
â-- Obama tax plan - covers 95% of workers and their families
â--McCain plan - not fully implemented until 2016:
Increase dependent tax exemption $500 per year until 2016
$100 billion in corporate and high income tax cuts - including $1.2 BILLION to Exxon! (Losing this would pay for more tax benefits to middle income America)
$125 benefit to family of 4, after which taxes increase (e.g., taxes imposed on any health care benefits received from employer)
Effect: McCain's plan will add $200 billion to $300 billion to national deficit
(New York Times)
He did not support extending the economic stimulus package to elderly and disabled veterans
â--Obama plan:
5 million new jobs from green technologies and jobs such as retooling American auto industry
Immediate second stimulus package - tax rebates, foreclosure prevention
End capital gains tax on small businesses
Low income elderly (< $50,000/yr) pay NO income tax
$500 mortgage tax credit
$4000 per student college tax credit if students agree to serve
$500 per person tax credit to offset payroll taxes available first year of plan

let's get out there and call the liars "liars" and SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT. I DARE ALL OF US TO CONTACT AT LEAST 3 MEDIA OUTLETS EACH. (newspaper, radio, tv, etc)
she would do even more harm than bush to the environment
she does not believe in global warming - same coloring book as bush again
she wants to drill everywhere
her running mate has NEVER voted for alternative energy
she laughs when other women are called bit__ on a public radio
she is a member of the AIP that thinks it can start its own country
she is OK with book banning and will bully librarians to get her way
she has hacked into computers in campaigns to get her way
she was before the bridge before she was against it and "forgot" that
she has troopergate and now wants to transfer the case to her cronies
she thinks God ordained the war
she left her town $27 million in debt - a town of LESS than 10,000
she HAS used lobbyist - we are just supposed to ignore that fact
her running mate VOTED AGAINST equal pay for equal work
mccain and his family spent $900,000 on ONE credit vcard in ONE month - he has no clue about the economy
mccain wants to, and VOTED for privatization of social security - my parents depend on that!
mccane health care - the cost for a famly of four for insurance is $13,000 A YEAR by a recent study - he will give you a $5000 tax credit - and tax any benefits from employers. Does he think the insurance companies are just going to suddenly LOWER their costs.
his probable financial advisor - phil graham - thinks all this is in our heads!
as a woman - i say NO WAY. and there needs to be vetting, and public discourse. i AM SICK of sound bites - she "has done so much" - what??????? when she was mayor WE ARE TALKING LESS THAN 1000 PEOPLE WHO ELECTED HER - that needs to be known. Alaska has a population NO LARGER than Fort Worth Texas - true fact. And she has 18 months experience.
and tax breaks - Obama will cut the taxes for anyone making less than $250,000, eliminate capital gains tax on small businesses AND the low income elderly will pay NO taxes. ONLY the very rich (at least to little old me) will get an increase.
Who would have thought....
Cindy, Sarah, Laura, and Hillary the GOP.
A Carl Rove inspired initiative...
she requires loyalty oaths (sound familiar)
she does not believe in global warming
mayor of town LESS than 10,000 that has an administrator, and she left it $27 MILLION in debt
she KEPT and SPENT the bridge to nowhere money - now THAT is some hyprocracy
will be maybe even better than Bush in disregarding the environment
NO Foreign POlicy experience - oh wait - she lives closer to russia than the rest of us (thanks cindy mcsame)
member of AIP that wants to leave the union and start its own little country of Alaska???????
however, just watch this you tube video and you get it better than i can write it here.

Huh?
Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:
She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience. (1)
Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest. (2)
She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. (3)
Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools. (4)
She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change. (5) Read More »

I really enjoyed Bill Clinton's speech and I actually thought it was the best of the night and exactly what the Obama camped needed from the Clinton Democratic Royalty. Clinton finally acknowledge that Obama shares many of his similar traits and that Obama would be a great leader for the nation. I can tell you, I was watching this at the gym and I could just feel my heart beat racing, not just from the running, but from the excited! The passing of this torch is an important right of passage for Obama to have and by having it the Clintons have given him the key to the White House *knocks on wood*. This is a very exciting time to be part of the 18 million strong in support of Obama (I think that was the number from the the speech) and a very special time to be in history!
Ordinary Americans are behind Obama and those of us who want change in our government are going to have to work very hard to get him elected in November.
No one likes to say it but this is nothing less than a class war between the rich and the middle class and the poor. We must remember that we outnumber them and our vote overwhelms theirs and we must work to tell others in the coming two months. We must get out and tell the story to the middle class and the poor. We must register more people and educate them as to why they should vote for Obama.
To tell the truth I wasn't 100% sure until last night and I saw the less than 100 "protesters" show up to protest the nomination not being handed to Hillary. Then I knew for certain. If there were really such a huge grassroots of swelling protests as our right-wing mainstream media have led us to believe--and honestly even some of them continuing last night to suggest--then there would have been thousands of Hillary protesters out before the convention. If as many Americans were really as mad as hell regarding the Obama nomination as the mainstream media has been whipping up the story--thousands would have been there last night--not less than 100 people.
What remains as fact is that over 2 million individual Americans have contributed to Obama's campaign and we are ready to dig into our pockets again and again for him inbetween now and the election to make it happen. That's the reality of numbers.

The real battle ranging now in our Democratic Party is not about Hillary and Obama. The real battle raging now in our Democratic Party is between the conservative and the progressive/liberal factions of the Democratic Party.
The irony is that it is really a battle between a conservative centrist DLC member Hillary Clinton and a slightly less conservative centrist non-DLC member, Barack Obama. BOTH OF THEM ARE CENTRISTS. One can hardly see daylight between their two political ideologies.
So why this tempest in a teacup? It's all about power in our party. For you see, without Hillary as the winner, all her surrogates and power brokers in the party such as James Carville, Howard Ikkes, etc. also lose their power as well.
The upheaval is about changing the power structure of the Democratic Party. And there is a reason why only 10 of Clinton's 300 big time bundlers have come over to Obama's side. It's because all of their power is tied to the Clintons. It's not about big differences in their political ideologies.

I've always thought you're a natural for the job and thought it is odd that you're not already president. My only serious reservation is about your vote for what turned out to be the Iraq war resolution.Even I had the good sense to see the administration was lying, that evidence was fabricated, and the intelligence was fake.
I could see the administration was comprised of people who would do such a thing. Read More »
Well I guess we will continue thoughout this election to have Republican smear literature passed along to our DNC site. I saw an example of it this morning that has been erased by Matt, but for some reason, when these awful attacks on our presidential nominee are erased, their titles remain in the highest rated posts and thus raise unanswered questions.
The title of this one was "Obama would permit abortions on humans born alive" by Joseph B.
This sort of Low Information appeal on abortion is exactly where the Huffington Post predicted would be the next line of attack taken the Republican smear machine. I do think that these hate posts should be deleted. I commend Matt for doing that. I also think that in their place the related detail needs to be presented to disprove the incorrect low information appeal thesis. And that follows if you care to know THE WHOLE STORY as opposed to a HALF TRUTH presented by someone whose only goal is to smear Obama.
Read More »Below is an old cartoon that looks like it might hail from Franklin Roosevelt's day, if not even earlier in our history as a nation. Interesting isn't it? The elephant is crashing through the planks of his own platform (inflation, repudiation, etc.) and falling into the abyss. (and to note: the donkey is barely escaping himself).
Following on the extended post is detail for all five of those bills and amendments that I listed previously and suggested that 49 Republicans are blocking the democratic agenda every step of the way. I still hold to that belief and you can see for yourself. Only on one out of five did they vote for the people, but then their president vetoed that one.
However as Betty Lou rightly pointed out, Ron Paul does consistenly vote on the side of the people and with the Democrats more often than not. AND the House of Representatives is the more democratic AND bipartisan body of our Congress. They often pass good legislation that gets hammered by the elitist Senate. And yes the ones who ruin it for the rest of us ARE by and large the Republicans. Although there are sometimes a few stray Democrats who cross over, it is overwhelmingly the Republicans who block the decent legislation. So remember that this fall.
