Conservative Cafe: Coffee Served Right
| By Dr. Lee - Sep 18th, 2007 at 5:38 pm EDT |
This is no joke - a restaurant in Crown Point, Indiana will open soon which is named, The Conservative Cafe. It's motto is "coffee served right." I've got to admit that's funny. But...
The owner wants a place where conservatives can congregate and feel safe to talk about American "values" and watch Fox Noise on the television. It's embarrassing to admit I live in this town.
Needless to say, I will not be going there anytime soon. I'm patiently waiting to see how many people actually show up. Crown Point is traditionally conservative, but has been more mainstream than radical.
Is this a sign of the times here in backwoods Indiana? Or just the feverish dream of a crazed conservative? The link is below. It was supposed to open this past spring and then moved to this past summer. But I guess, like most Conservatives, they don't know how to plan things very well.

Obviously they have some kind of problem already.
They are free to open up this business if they want, and I am free not to go in. But I think I would be insulted if it was called the Liberal Cafe. As Cornel West maintains, we need to construct a dialogue that includes mutual respect of other opinions. We don't have that going on right now. I mean, a strong Jeffersonian principle is to have peole who can express themselves freely and that perhaps we can even learn from others. It sounds idealistic, however, in my American political thought class, we do it. Conservative students in my class have the opportunity to express their views and discuss them. They must also have an open ear to the liberal students. Do we always agree? No, but at least we have a conversation going on with differing points of view - which won't be going on at the Conservative Cafe.
People who are smart try to 'coin' catchy phrases to promote their business. This guy apparently has enough business sense to do just that.
In my house you better be prepared. If your a Dem and I'm watching O'reilly you better sit down and shut-up. Likewise if your a repoop sit down and shut up when Keith Olbermann is on. I'm open for discussion on either side
But I am so tired of these Republicans and their lattes.
teehee
On a side note, I am very tired of hearing about the Liberal or Communist media... That is a joke and a lie. All those network stations support the status quo of protecting corporate ruling elite interests. There is anything very close to representing Liberal views... Media & society are still busy trying to earn validation in the eyes of the right and 50 years later... still kissing Sen. McCarthy's ass.
With businesses like the "Conservative Cafe" it only serves to divide us and keep people from coming together, instead they seek a new segregation...
