Conservative Cafe: Coffee Served Right

This is no joke - a restaurant in Crown Point, Indiana will open soon which is named, The Conservative Cafe. It's motto is "coffee served right." I've got to admit that's funny. But...

The owner wants a place where conservatives can congregate and feel safe to talk about American "values" and watch Fox Noise on the television. It's embarrassing to admit I live in this town.

Needless to say, I will not be going there anytime soon. I'm patiently waiting to see how many people actually show up. Crown Point is traditionally conservative, but has been more mainstream than radical.

Is this a sign of the times here in backwoods Indiana? Or just the feverish dream of a crazed conservative? The link is below. It was supposed to open this past spring and then moved to this past summer. But I guess, like most Conservatives, they don't know how to plan things very well.

I'm SHOCKED

You sound just like one of them O'reilly types and Shopman I'm surprised at you to. The last time I looked we are Democrats. We don't judge what type of business someone is attempting to open. Everyone has a right to open any business and let it stand or sink on its own merits. I look at it this way as long they, the repoops, are all gathered in one spot we can better keep any eye on them...
Obviously they have some kind of problem already.

Of course we judge the kinds of businesses people open. Wouldn't you be opposed to a house of prostitution or an adult themed sex store? I would be if they came to my community. Now, this cafe is not the same, and the proprietor is not breaking any laws, but the place is very exclusionary. Why not a Political Cafe, where we could all talk together about politics - even if we disagree.

They are free to open up this business if they want, and I am free not to go in. But I think I would be insulted if it was called the Liberal Cafe. As Cornel West maintains, we need to construct a dialogue that includes mutual respect of other opinions. We don't have that going on right now. I mean, a strong Jeffersonian principle is to have peole who can express themselves freely and that perhaps we can even learn from others. It sounds idealistic, however, in my American political thought class, we do it. Conservative students in my class have the opportunity to express their views and discuss them. They must also have an open ear to the liberal students. Do we always agree? No, but at least we have a conversation going on with differing points of view - which won't be going on at the Conservative Cafe.

Dr Lee as long as an area is zoned for the type of business an owner can put up his business. Residential areas are not usually zoned for adult businesses. Only 'bible-thumping' repoops and O'reilly type try to control who and what businesses are allowed.
People who are smart try to 'coin' catchy phrases to promote their business. This guy apparently has enough business sense to do just that.
In my house you better be prepared. If your a Dem and I'm watching O'reilly you better sit down and shut-up. Likewise if your a repoop sit down and shut up when Keith Olbermann is on. I'm open for discussion on either side

Have them wear it on their sleeve. That way you know not to go there.

But I am so tired of these Republicans and their lattes.

Divided We Fall

Being a Crown Point, IN resident myself, I am very interested with the "Conservative Cafe" taking up shop. I love when rightists complain they are being oppressed and need a hide-out... Weird, with all the "if you are Liberal - you are a Red" mentality that still exists in the U.S., you would think those who have leftist views would still need an underground establishment.

On a side note, I am very tired of hearing about the Liberal or Communist media... That is a joke and a lie. All those network stations support the status quo of protecting corporate ruling elite interests. There is anything very close to representing Liberal views... Media & society are still busy trying to earn validation in the eyes of the right and 50 years later... still kissing Sen. McCarthy's ass.

With businesses like the "Conservative Cafe" it only serves to divide us and keep people from coming together, instead they seek a new segregation...

I am proud to live in a town that will support conservatives as well as liberals. As for "backwoods" Indiana...Dr. Lee... I would like to see what makes this town backwoods. I though dems. were all for peoples freedom of beliefs and choices, etc... Just a bunch of waffelling...oops I mean flip-flopping... err... I forgot I am talking to a dem.
