Let's get some things straight!!!!!!!

I do not support Sen. Clinton. I also do not support Sen. Obama. There are aspects I lean towards from each of them I also could lean towards McCain in some of his views but as well do not support him. To support Obama I need him to understand the importance of maintaining troops in Iraq for reasons of stability of that country until we are energy independent. From Clinton I need to know the same thing. I want to know how each of them are going to address achieving energy independence and that includes covering all of the aspects of achieving it meainging not negatively affecting other areas of the economy. I want to know exactly what all three intend to do to fix the economy and to reverse extreme special interest control of our government. There are other smaller issues I want to see from each of them. Even if Obama-Clinton becomes a reality I want to hear specifics not general items of change. I even want to hear it from McCain. Then I will decide. I will register Independent for the November election so I am not bound to any party. On a final note, once i make up my mind I will not make it public as I am bound not to endorse any candidate as I am president of a non-profit org.

Hillary's next best move

Her next best move is to sit on her supporters, and encourge them to stay with her. Holding them for inclusion into the the running ticket or for a run at the white house independently. If she has confidence that no one could win a majority between 3 people running for the white house she should run individually for the presidency and seek to hold all candidates to less than a majority and let congress decide on who should be president and vice president from the candidates of president. Please read the constitution as to how the president is elected if no candidate is elected by majority from the popular vote. By the way the electorial college could not elect if no candidate wins a majority of electors thus congress would decide the election.

*Important* Long Message

Dear People, First, I would like say congrats to Sen. Obama in achieving the delegates to achieve the nomination of the Democratic Party. I would like to take this time to speak of items I have said for a long time. I, like Sen. Obama, did not support this nation going to war in Iraq. I was disappointed that this nation choose to go to war under the premise of a need to irradicate Iraq's weapons of mass distruction. Continued in extended post

Changes

Many have advocated, in private messages to me, that I take a more active role in moderating PartyBuilder given some of the differences that have arisen. There have been arguments, I've argued, but I've been hesitant to ban anybody who isn't clearly crossing the line.

I've done it -- I've had to, on occasion. And I think everybody agrees it's necessary from time to time. Usually I prefer to send messages privately.

Now I no longer have to step in, thanks to a new feature from the makers of PartyBuilder. I'll detail it on the flip.

Repost: Forum Etiquette

(I felt the need to repost this, Originally posted here in May 2007).

For new users, and anyone else who is curious what the consensus on Internet Etiquette is, you may find this wiki article helpful:

Forum Etiquette
Certain rules of unspoken etiquette are recommended to be followed when using Internet forums. They include:

* One should read all the rules and guidelines established by the community. Some communities may have different regulations on a particular subject.
* One should always be courteous to other forum members.
* Before creating a new topic thread, one is advised to search to see if a similar topic already exists.
* Contributors should follow standard grammar and spelling rules and avoid slang. Leetspeak is sometimes accepted.
* If the forum is categorized, one should strive to post in the correct section.
* When making a technical inquiry, one should include as much technical information as possible, especially in the subject line.
* Contributors are asked to stay on-topic.
* Contributors should avoid double posting and Crossposting.
* To avoid appearing self-absorbed, one should respond to topics started by others more often than starting topics of one's own.
* Contributors should avoid the use of all CAPITAL LETTERS in posts. All CAPS is considered "shouting" and causes readability issues.
* One is advised not to resurrect a very old topic if nothing significant will be added. This practice is known as revival or Necroing.
* One should try to refrain from lashing back at a poorly behaving member or participating in a flame war; instead, notify the messageboard's staff of the event.
* When quoting a previous post, one should only include the relevant portion of that post. Contributors are requested to keep in mind that their audience can likely still see the message they are quoting on the same screen and can read it again if need be.
* Signatures on forums should have a maximum height of 100 pixels, as to not cause clutter.
Keep your heads up folks, we have a lot of work to do.

Thank you all for your hard work. Please hang in there. It will pay off in the end.

On Rhetoric, and basic beliefs needed...

He/She did this wrong! (oh, they're supposed to be perfect?)

She/He should have made a decision to keep their spouse under control! (Really, are they supposed able to predict what will happen with less than a 1% margin of error?)

Spouses and families are supposed to be seen and not heard! (Oh, They're children?)

He/She isn't supposed to try to tear down my candidate's character? (Why? Is your candidate GOD? Come to think of it, God even has to deal with human beings...)

I don't expect him/her to do what they say they'll do... it's all lies so they can have power and glory... they don't care, and Heeeere's the Link! (Do you really believe they are Republicans? Why didn't they change their party affiliation... surely they'd have better luck with votes...?)

She/He will never win the election with that platform! (Never mind that they agree on 90 percent of it)

He/She Is perfect. (Worship, again)

He/She is the devil. (Worship, again)

She/He can't do anything right... just take a look at 20 years ago! (Oh, you were an angel 20 years ago, and now you are sitting in the judgement seat?)

He/She doesn't have what it takes to lead! (What does it take? How do you know? Where would you find it... are they not as smart as you?)

They're not electable! (Oh, and the Republicans are? On what do you base that opinion? The special interests bankrolling them? Our party has figured out who they represent, and folks, that's about 90% of the voting public. They have found us people who've been discriminated against, been vilified, been through the mill, both in politics, personal problems, the wrong name, preconceived notions, etcetera. Is there anyone they don't represent??? Who does McCain represent..............................huh?)

We have a job to do! And it isn't the above. Our party (the delegates we send to the national convention) needs us to help them phrase the platform issues that affect us all. There doesn't need to be any snags on these planks, and if there aren't, not only are they electable, the job we elect them to is doable!

No snags on your candidate's planks? (Well, [with acknowledgement to Reagan] there you go again)

Spamming

It's not just spamming when it's a used car loan, or refinancing. I'm kind of preaching to those of you who don't only do things correctly, but who are also the ones negatively affected by the one or two people that do not.

But still. Maybe as an admin here I just need to say it for the couple of people who don't know: no, it's not cool to copy and paste stuff over and over again. No matter who, or what, it's in support of.

I deleted some posts (some of which used characters that made the entire thing unreadable), but I didn't ban anybody for it. I also sent a note privately. I'm hoping everybody continues to largely self-moderate.

I'm going to suggest...

That PB give us 8 points instead of 5 for comments. I think it would give us a lot more give and take on the issues of each post, and perhaps generate some really great ideas on how to handle the issues that face us as a country.

It might also cut down on some of the filler blogging that goes on.

Sorry, but I can't figure out how to make it polite without some really meaningful commentary being censored!

Just wanted to take a minute to apologize for everybody for the errors that we experienced this weekend. The talented people who made PartyBuilder decided to make some changes that resulted in some errors, but we should be back to normal now. In the future, I'll try to notify all of you in advance.

Please use this thread to report any errors you might still be receiving. (More on the flip.)

Handheld, Mobile VoteBuilder?

Apple has introduced a new iPod with built in WiFi wireless Internet starting at $299 and cut the price of the iPhone which also supports WiFi to $399, both phones have an Internet web browser, Safari. In areas with free WiFi wireless Internet service (downtown Orlando), a used or refurbished iPod Touch or iPhone would make a low cost handheld device for accessing the voter file with a web interface, DNC's VoteBuilder.
Character Limits? What Do You Think?

During the past few weeks, I've heard from many folks that the usability of Partybuilder is affected by the length of posts--and that most users are not using the extended post features.

We're now investigating the possibility of placing a character or word limit on the space before the jump. What do you think of this idea? Will that help start to address some of the Partybuilder problems? And what kind of character or word limit should there be?
