I just was forwarded an email from an elderly family member. It calls for a boycott of the new "muslim" stamp.
It was soooooooooo bad on soooooo many levels.

The source appears to be:
Peggy Smith
Ada County Highway District | 3775 Adams St. Garden City, Idaho 83714
(On Government time?) Now Ms. Smith may have forwarded this, but it was from a government computer and is clearly discriminatory.
Far from patriotic, I find this unamerican. I would remind the author that many muslim americans have also fought for our freedoms and that this country is made up of many peoples and many faiths. Violoent acts are certainly not confined to muslims. Just watch your local news and see how many of those arrested are muslim. Misguided people do bad things.
HERE IS THE email...
_______

USPS New 42-Cent Stamp!!! Celebrates Muslim holiday.
If there is only ONE thing you forward today... let it be this!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of Pan Am Flight 103!
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993!
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon !
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military Barracks in Saudi Arabia !
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa !
REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!
REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on 9/11/2001 !
REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks!

Now President Obama has directed the United States Postal Service to REMEMBER and HONOR the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a new commemorative 42 Cent First Class Holiday Postage Stamp..

REMEMBER to adamantly & vocally BOYCOTT this stamp, when you are purchasing your stamps at the post office. All you have to say is "No thank you, I do not want that Muslim Stamp on my letters!"

To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors..

REMEMBER ~ Pass this along to every Patriotic AMERICAN that you know and let's get the word out !!!

Here is something to chew on .... They (MUSLIMS) are getting their own stamp! BUT, don't dare to dream of posting the ten commandments on federal property! This is truly UNBELIEVABLE !!!

I hope someone looks into this.

As a person who has suffered from a repetitive-strain injury, I am thrilled to hear that OSHA is once more doing their job. It's more than 10 years since I worked in that factory and I still carry the inability to overuse my right arm. Thank-you Jordan Barab. "The law says that employers are responsible for workplace safety and health," he said in June. Once more the administration shows they are in office to serve and protect. Thank-you, Mr. President.
Thank-you for turning the tide from aggression, arrogance and posturing to a new flood of listening, diplomacy and tolerance of the diverse cultures and peoples who inhabit this earth.
During the campaign, all the times I stood in line to hear you speak, I believed you were the man for our time. The man who could, if elected, move us from the brink of catastrophe to a new era of peaceful cohabitation with the world. You are, after only a few short months, fulfilling my hopes beyond my expectations.
I am truly proud to have had a tiny part in helping you to be elected.
I am eternally grateful and in your debt. You ARE making the world a safer place.
Making PEACE is much harder than making WAR.
Peace to you,

The Baucus Finance committee proposal is too broad and cumbersome.
While there are much needed changes included in it, those changes, in insurance reform (kind of), payment, physician incentives, hospice payment, tax exemption status and all the others.. cloud the issue of coverage for the average American.
This is too complex and there are too many loop holes and gaps.
It exemplifies the problems with a capitalist system of medicine, a delivery system which is dependent on the profit of the carrier.
It exemplifies the bureaucratic system of writing legislation.. BROKEN!
We need a not for profit system in which we can all be treated and not worry before and during illness.
While there are portions of the proposal I agree with... for the most part I see the insurance companies coming out far better than the American people on this...
Finance Committee.... How about saving US money? We pay the taxes.. pay for your ability to have healthcare... How about taking care of US first?
1. No 100% coverage. THAT SHOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE! If I am going to be MANDATED to buy coverage... make it worth my money! NO ONE SHOULD LOSE THEIR HOME BECAUSE OF THEIR HEALTH!
2. Allowing "Rating Areas". This leaves the system wide open for the same discrimination minorities suffer in car insurance. Will cities pay more? What about industrial areas which are historically minority and low income communities?
What about areas near power plants, clean-up sites, coal mines?
Will that effect our property values? The income of states? (High rating= no industry?) This cannot be allowed. EQUAL COVERAGE! BY LAW!
3. Classism... "Gold 90-95% coverage, Silver 70-80%, and Bronze 60%" coverage... Get better if you pay more? More like take the assets of the poor who cannot afford an expensive policy. (I will probably get paper.)
4.PENALTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
$750-$1,500 for 100-300 % below poverty level. ( though it does address extreme need) $950-3,800 for ^ 300% of FPL. IS THAT PER PERSON? Seems the poor will pay a larger burden... and the same penalties as income taxes.. THAT'S HUGE! Do I lose my policy if I disobey the doctor? Refuse a drug? Refuse treatment? Then what?
What if I can't pay the fine... Debtors Prison?

Bottom Line I like HR676. To the point, simple.. no BS.
I like the Obama Plan.. not so simple, but with a PUBLIC OPTION I won't buck.

WHAT IS NEEDED?
EQUAL COVERAGE- EQUAL TREATMENT-
PUBLIC OPTION, open to ALL, IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!

Most of the rest of the stuff will either be solved by PUBLIC OPTION or can be fixed later. STOP PANDERING TO SPECIAL INTERESTS AND SERVE THE MASSES.

I asked people to vote straight ticket Democrat door to door during the campaign reasoning that then we could get healthcare passed and stop the wars.
YOU ALL ARE MAKING A LIAR OUT OF ME AND I DON'T APPRECIATE IT!

If this is enacted the Democratic Party may as well go home for 20 years.
There will be so many angry voters that we will not win another election in my lifetime. You are destroying the party.
peace to you all,
marsha riggan
So who has read it .. Is it true that it allows insurance companies to cover only 65% of care?
Are we all going to the poorhouse if we get sick?
No public option.. Medicare for those under 29,000 a year for a family of 4 and then credits for private insurance?
That would be laughable if it didn't mean people will die.
It still has a mandate and fines if you don't buy a private plan..
Just like car insurance.... I'll get PL/PD, and pray I don't get cancer.
peace,
marsha
Please read and pass on this personal message on Rex's experience with medicare.. we should all be so lucky...
He gave this to my friend Kathleen to post, and pass on.

Hello family, friends and neighbors;

Our country is bogged down in a national health care crisis and I feel compelled to add my two cents to the discussion. I feel qualified to speak out by virtue of being the recent recipient of our excellent Medicare health system. May 21, 2009 I received life sustaining open heart surgery which, no doubt salvaged the quality of my life today, not to mention adding productive years to it. I feel extremely fortunate to have had one of the very best heart surgeons and surgical teams in the nation use their skills to keep me alive.

However, I feel even more fortunate that my cardio crisis waited until this time in my life, 68 years of age, to reach critical mass. I have absolutely no doubt that if my heart problem would have peaked 10 years ago, before my eligibility for Medicare, I would have been one dead dude, not because the problem could not be surgically corrected, but because there is no way I could scrape up the money from my family and friends to pay even a fraction of the resulting medical cost of heart surgery.

Medicare is not perfect but it is an established medical delivery system that leaves all medical decisions to the doctor and patient. My cardiologist and I monitored the deterioration of my heart valve over the past nine years until my symptoms dictated it was time to proceed with corrective surgery. I was on the operating table for five hours, during which time my deteriorated aortic valve was replaced, plus one by-pass was accomplished. In total, I spent five nights and six days in the hospital, including 24 hours in ICU. My total Medicare co-pay was $800 for a surgical procedure that cost in excess of $200,000.00. No insurance companies or government officials were ever a part of any discussion about when, or if, I could have this life saving operation.

The 'pay or die' health care system our young people (under 65 yrs of age) are living under in this country is a moral disgrace to all Americans. I do not believe the solution to our disastrous health care system is about politics, democrats or republicans, or right wing versus left wing ideology.
Health care for everyone is about human decency and the moral responsibility of all nations. It hurts my spirit each time I hear about someone dying from a medically correctable condition in this country because they could not get health care coverage and had no money (the two go together). Our medical care for profit is the laughing stock of the world. Most countries that have universal healthcare for all include a law that makes it illegal to make a profit for providing basic health care. Even China has begun plans to provide universal health care for all its citizens. No other industrialized country in the world treats its citizens the way we do. America is so much better than this.

I am asking everyone I know to support a national healthcare program that would provide Medicare for every man, women and Child who wants it. Support it because it is an established medical delivery system that runs efficiently (overhead estimated at less than 4%) and is successful (87% Medicare recipients say they are highly satisfied). It would save the tax payers billions of dollars when compared to any of the 'medical reform plans' currently being debated. The simple strategy of doing nothing and keeping the current medical system in place guarantees the insurance corporations will continue to get richer, our medical system for the rich will continue spiral further out of control, more of our citizens will be denied coverage and more people will die unnecessarily because they lack money.

Medicare is the best, most efficient, least costly medical delivery system in the United States today. The problem is that it is only available to citizens 65 and older and disabled Americans. It would be easy to re-write the law to make it available to all Americans who want it. Everyone who has private health insurance and is happy with it should keep it, those who are unhappy with their health insurance and all those who do not have health insurance could be covered by Medicare.

I believe with every fiber of my recently repaired heart that decent quality health care like I received a few months ago is a fundamental right of every American citizen, not just a privilege of senior citizens and the very wealthy. Our country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, if that remains to be true.if we continue to represent ourselves as a Christian nation.then we must come to terms with the very basic moral issue that is as old as the Scriptures, how we treat the weakest among us. People don't die broke because of health care anywhere else in the industrialized world, but they do every day in America. I do not believe we can save the world, but I do believe we possess the common love, compassion and wisdom among us to come together to do this basic human thing of providing quality basic health care for all American citizens.

Thank you for your time and willingness to think about this topic. Feed back welcome.

Hoping you and your loved ones are healthy and happy.

Rex
I received an update on facebook from OH rep. D. Kucinich today. in part it said.

"The masquerade is over! The "public option" is ... dead.

Health care reform is now a private option: WHICH FOR PROFIT INSURANCE COMPANY DO YOU WANT? You have to choose. And you have to pay. If you have a low income, under HR3200 government will subsidize the private insurance companies and you will still have to pay premiums, co-pays and deductibles.

The Administration plan requires that everyone must have health insurance, so it is delivering tens of millions of new "customers" to the insurance companies. Health care? Not really. Insurance care! Absolutely. Cost controls? No chance.

You will next hear talk about "co-ops." The truth is that insurance company campaign contributions have co-opted the public interest."
The hotly-debated HR3200, the so-called "health care reform" bill, is nothing less than corporate welfare in the guise of social welfare and reform. It is a convoluted mess. The real debate which we should be having is not occurring.

Removing the "public option" from a public bill paid for by public money is not in the public interest. What is left is a "private option" paid for with public money. Why should public money be spent on a private option which does not guarantee 100% coverage nor have any cost controls? A true public option would provide 30% savings immediately which would then cover the 1/3rd of the population who presently have no healthcare.

Unfortunately, under HR3200, the Government is choosing winners and losers in the private sector; proposing to spend public funds on subsidizing insurance companies who make money not providing health care. This process wil insure only one thing - the expansion of profits. Gone is the debate over cost.

As a result of current negotiations, the Medicare Part D rip-off will continue for another decade, further fleecing senior citizens. Drug importation has been dropped, so no inexpensive drugs can be accessed from other nations.

Instead we are told the pharmaceutical companies will accept a 2% cut in the growth rate of their profits - this they call cost control!"

Please read HR676 and contact your congress person.
I'm very concerned about this.. If I am required to pay for something which does not work...
I don't know if I will do that.. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will feel that way.. If this is true, it is a set up. We will be breaking the law if we don't buy what won't help us.....

For those of you who don't know me... this is a repost from 2007.
I am old enough to have been a "hippie" if there is such a thing.. I only met people, many of whom felt as I did... I am a Friend.

Words have tremendous power. A single word can hurt or heal. I am no great writer but, I know what I think, and I believe the more people in a dialog, the better the results.
I usually sign off on my comments with PEACE.
The reason I do this is simple. I want peace. I know you all will read the word and for a moment it is in your mind. During that moment in your mind it is a powerful thought. The more people that think that thought, the more powerful it becomes.
I would like you all to consider how many times someone says to you, "have a nice day". If we replaced that with, "Peace" or "Have a Peaceful day" , how much could we pass that thought around. How many politicians would take notice if suddenly they heard the word everyday, everywhere, all day long? Could we make them notice? It could be the new trend. We could make it so.
With so many people saying the word every day, I believe we could make an impact on the thought processes of many of our leaders.
This, I'm sure sounds very idealistic but, just last week I heard of a man who changed the day of many people by buying an angry man a Starbuck's coffee.
A small act if passed around can grow into powerful good.
Give it a shot...the next time you start to say, "have a nice day" replace it with, "Peace". Sign your emails "Peacefully yours" or "Yours in Peace", or "In hope of Peace".
Maybe we can show Washington how many people want peace before the election.
If it doesn't work in that way, we will still be spreading goodwill, and this is the season to start it.
Peace to you all, Marsha

I just heard some Dick, (literally his name was Dick something), saying the "bush recession" had ended and the "Obama recession" was beginning. He also was slamming government healthcare... Saying we don't have enough doctors to treat everyone and we will have "rationed care".
It was Bush propaganda all over again. I hate NBC these days... Where is ABC anyway? I can't even get a signal. UGH!
If we lose on public healthcare it will be because WE dropped the ball!

Sickened at the prospect that a victory for reformist Mir-Hossein Mousavi in the Iranian presidential election might have led to better relations with the United States, neoconservatives here and their fellow war hawks in Israel are celebrating the dubious victory of hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Yes, this is true: Right-wingers in America and Israel don't want peace with Iran, nor do they want anyone to get the impression that President Obama's efforts at engagement with Iran might actually work, nor do they give a damn about the Iranian people. Mad Mahmoud is the man neocons love to hate, and they're as happy as clams that their guy found a way to steal the election.

Had Mousavi won the Iranian election as many in Iran and around the world hoped, it would likely have signalled a new and more positive direction for U.S.-Iranian relations as well as providing support for the "Obama Doctrine" of engagement with Iran and others in the Muslim world with which America's relations have been troubled. Such a development would at the same time have undercut the neocon attitude of hostility and suspicion toward Iran, as well as undercutting the right-wing Israeli government's aggressive stance toward Iran. As we know, neocons can tolerate peace only when it is imposed with an iron fist or the heel of a jackboot, and the prospect of peace through diplomacy in the Greater Middle East must surely have given them nightmares the rest of us could scarcely imagine.

In the run-up to the Iranian election last week, Daniel Pipes of the right-wing Middle East Forum came right out and admitted in a speech at the right-wing Heritage Foundation that he would actually vote for Ahmadinejad if he were allowed to vote in Iran (video). This speech was followed by a June 12 blog post by Pipes in which he reiterated that he was "rooting for Ahmadinejad" based on the twisted logic that the fundamentalist clerics who really rule Iran will always be our enemies and it's better to have an Iranian president we can really hate than "a sweet-talking Mousavi" who lulls us into thinking we can be friends. Never mind the aspirations or even basic human rights of the Iranian people; never mind anyone's desire for peace in the Greater Middle East. I've long had a pretty strong distaste for Daniel Pipes, but following this admission I'm more convinced of his utter vileness than ever. This is, after all, a man who has publicly advocated for the profiling and internment of Muslims in America, and who considers Israeli and Palestinian existence mutually exclusive (see Sourcewatch). As we leave the age of the neocons behind, I look forward to watching Pipes and others like him slide into the bitter, drooling irrelevance and oblivion they deserve.

The American Enterprise Institute's equally malignant Michael Rubin likewise told Kathryn Jean Lopez at the National Review that it might be better for Ahmadinejad to win, because a Mousavi win might give Obama and the rest of us the impression that diplomacy was actually working. Painting Iran as inherently and hopelessly evil, Rubin said of the Iranian election that should Mousavi win "it would be easier for Obama to believe that Iran really was figuratively unclenching a fist when, in fact, it had its other hand hidden under its cloak, grasping a dagger." James Taranto strikes a similar tone in the Wall Street Journal, warning against the "eagerness to see Obama's feel-good foreign-policy approach succeed."

Now that the Iranian election appears to be over, right-wingers will be tripping over themselves in the rush to use Ahmadinejad's victory against Obama. In fact, once and future Republican U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney has already piped up, saying that Ahmadinejad's win is proof that Obama's "policy of going around the world and apologizing for America is not working." These losers obviously have nothing left but the hope that Obama will fail, or can at least be said to have failed. I look forward to watching Romney and his party lose again in 2012.

Right-wingers in Israel, meanwhile, have been making noises very similar to their American bedfellows, and appear to see nothing good for themselves in any warming of relations between the U.S. and Iran, as observed by M.J. Rosenberg at TPM. From Israel in the run-up to the Iranian election Yaakov Katz wrote in the Jerusalem Post that members of the Israeli defense establishment were "silently praying" for an Ahmadinejad victory, fearing that a Mousavi win would result in decreased pressure on Iran and its nuclear program. Now that Ahmadinejad appears to have successfully stolen the election, Israeli officials and their allies in America are calling for renewed pressure on Iran. Meanwhile, Amos Harel and Avi Issacharoff write in Haaretz that an Ahmadinejad victory is actually preferable for Israel because a Mousavi win would only "paste an attractive mask on the face of Iranian nuclear ambitions."

I suspect we'll hear more of this in days to come from eager neocons on both sides of the Atlantic. Obama's policy of engagement will work, however, and is working, as evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive reaction to his Cairo speech, by the Lebanese election results, by the reform movement in Iran, and by the likelihood that Ahmadinejad kept his office only through vote-rigging, suppression, and intimidation. Obama will succeed, and once he has neocons like Daniel Pipes can take up residence in the dustbin of history where they belong.

As Iranians go to the polls to elect a president, American neoconservatives are openly rooting not for moderate reform candidate and former prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi but for anti-U.S. hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This is an obvious sign both of the neocons' preference for conflict over peace between the U.S. and Iran and of the generally bankrupt state of conservatism in America, reduced now to banking on failure for the Obama administration (see Huffington Post, Rachel Maddow).

Should the reformist Mousavi win the Iranian election and become president, it would likely signal a new and more positive direction for U.S.-Iranian relations as well as providing support for the "Obama Doctrine" of engagement with Iran and other adversaries. Such a development would at the same time undercut the neocon attitude of hostility and suspicion toward Iran, as well as undercutting the right-wing Israeli government's aggressive stance toward Iran. Indeed right-wingers in Israel like those in America appear to see nothing good for themselves in any warming of relations between the U.S. and Iran, as observed by M.J. Rosenberg at TPM and Yaakov Katz at the Jerusalem Post.

The unpleasant fellow you see pictured here is Daniel Pipes of the right-wing Middle East Forum, a raging neocon who said in a speech this week at the Heritage Foundation that he would vote for Ahmadinejad if he were allowed to vote in Iran (video). The American Enterprise Institute's Michael Rubin likewise told Kathryn Jean Lopez at the National Review that it could be better for Ahmadinejad to win, because a Mousavi win might give Obama the impression that diplomacy was working. Painting Iran as inherently and hopelessly evil, Rubin said of the Iranian election that "should someone more soft-spoken and less defiant -- someone like former prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi -- win, it would be easier for Obama to believe that Iran really was figuratively unclenching a fist when, in fact, it had it had its other hand hidden under its cloak, grasping a dagger."

Without so openly rooting for Ahmadinejad, other neocons are playing down the significance of a possible Mousavi victory, obviously worried that a shift in power will signal a fresh start for U.S.-Iranian relations that could leave American and Israeli hawks out in the cold. The same right-wing pundits who constantly point out Ahmadinejad's bad behavior as reasons to confront Iran now argue that it doesn't matter who the president of Iran is. Martin Peretz wrote at the New New Republic: "We've known for a long time that elected leaders do not carry the weight of those who have been anointed." Ilan Berman likewise wrote at the American Spectator: "Whoever ends up becoming president will have little real power -- and even less influence over Iran's geostrategic direction."

The prospect of peace in the Greater Middle East must give sociopaths like these nightmares the rest of us could scarcely imagine.

Shawna Forde, leader of Minutemen American Defense, is one of three individuals arrested June 12 by sheriff's detectives in Pima County, Arizona, for the murder of a Mexican American man and his nine-year-old daughter.

Based in Washington State, Forde's group is one of several border militia groups nationwide that refer to themselves as "Minutemen," including also the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, of which Forde is also a former leader. Profiles on Forde and her anti-immigrant activities are available from the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League.

According to authorities, Forde and her two accomplices, Jason Eugene Bush and Albert Robert Gaxiola, broke into the home of Raul Flores and his family in Arivaca AZ on May 30th, apparently in the commission of a robbery. The invaders reportedly shot all three members of the Flores family who were present at the time, killing the father and daughter and leaving the mother wounded. While Bush is the suspected gunman in the shootings, investigators say Forde was the mastermind of the operation. Nine-year-old murder victim Brisenia Flores is pictured here from the local Green Valley News:

Forde is listed as the National Executive Director of Minuteman American Defense on the group's website, and the Arizona Daily Star reports that Bush, nicknamed "Gunny," is the group's Operations Director. The three are charged with two counts of first-degree murder in addition to burglary and aggravated assault charges.

The Minuteman American Defense website and blog contains numerous photos of Forde and friends at Minuteman and "Tea Party" events, including an Apr. 15 event in Phoenix at which Forde's favorite protest sign was one reading "Stop the Obama-Nation of America." The site also includes descriptions of immigrants as violent criminals, drug addicts, and "Subhuman Mexicans." Here is a photo of Forde in full border vigilante gear from the Anti-Defamation League:

Forde's mother tells the Everett WA Herald that she was not surprised to hear of her daughter's arrest since she had previously talked of staging home invasions: "She sat here and said that she was going to start a group where they went down and start taking things away from the Mexican mafia...," Forde's mother recalled, "...She was going to kick in their doors and take away the money and the drugs." Forde's mother also says that her daughter called her a few hours after the shootings May 30 and reported that she was taking refuge in a "safe house" in Arivaca: "I'm in hiding," Forde told her mother, "You won't believe what is going down here.... The mafia, they are kicking down doors and they are shooting people and they are looking for me."

Pima County sheriff's lieutenant Michael O'Connor told the local Sahuarita Sun that the killings were an "assassination," and said the killers were also looking for Flores' other daughter, who was not at home at time of the killings. Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik, meanwhile, said that Forde as "at best a pyschopath" (KOLD, KOMO, KVOA, Seattle Post-Intelligencer).
