Paul Kirk will fill TK's seat until the special election in Jan. Kirk had been on TK's staff for years and had also been party chairman in the 80's. The Mass. legislators decided to change the law Wed. to allow the Gov. to make the appt. this is great news giving the Dems that 60th seat back, whether it helps or not time wil tell.
I am super unhappy with Max from Montana, I would rather have nothing than what he is proposing. This is strictly a gift to the insurance industry.
I am still in the top 100, who would have thought?
I logged in for the first time in months and see I am still in 43rd place and that the spam still controls the site, guess its no suprise. Good luck to all Democrats and good luck to America.
Illinois Gov. Blagojevich is arrested and charged with corruption for trying to sell Obamas Senate seat to the highest bidder, this guy wanted Obama to appoint him to the cabinet and Obama turned him down thankfully. The Gov. has the sole responsibility to appoint Obamas replacement, luckily the Lt. Gov. is also a Dem.
I am going to attempt to name most of the people that I think were most helpful from a Party builder standpoint. I will miss many of course but I still want to do it. Read more.   Read More »
we got used to FDR and JFK so lets get used to BHO, we are going to need him for at least 8 years.
A lot of things going on lately, great that Stevens lost that is so cool I thought for sure the Senate would have to boot him but the Alaskan voters came through after all. I am sure many here are unhappy about Lieberman keeping his Chairmanship but if not why would he stay with caucus, he will vote with the Dems most of the time and Obama wanted him in the fold. Eric Holden first black AG and very qualified for the job. Tom Daschle for Health and Human services seems like a good choice. Of course Hillary Clinton possibly SOS, this seems to be big question for many, I am good with it if Obama and Clinton are both for it, I know some think Richardson should get it and maybe he should but there isnt much talk about it and he could still get another post. Overall I very pleased with all of his decisions and think things are going quite smoothly for him so far. Finally there also is a lot tension about what to do with the auto industry I have said here before they should do it 25 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to doing nothing and going into a real depression, I know some think that is good thing but it wont be good for the country or the Democratic party if this economy goes into a real tailspin and we get double-digit unemployment and all the other terrible effects that could come from inaction from the government.
that was the unemployment rate in 1933 when FDR took office. Home building fell 80% between 1929 and 1932, manufacturing fell 45% in same time and over 5000 banks failed during these same years. I dont want to argue this point anymore if some of you want to let the markets correct themselves I just encourage you to look at these numbers.
on Jay Leno when McCain said "stand behind our new President" a little troubling, maybe I worry too much.
in the Democratic caucus, I agree he will vote with them most of the time and could give us the 60 if everything goes right. Forget revenge and hard feelings.
I love football! I see we have the return of Pee-Wee, he was here in the beginning before most and now has returned with his thoughts, interesting. I guess this site will become whatever those whose participate make it.
I would like to start by saying congratulations to everyone here on the site we did good. It becomes a different thing now its about governing and policy decisions I freely admit I am not smart enough to grapple with these issues I trust the Democratic party and Barack Obama to lead and handle our big challenges I may have an opinion now and then but for the most part I will trust those elected and appointed to resolve our nations problems. I encourage everyone to continue to blog and share thoughts and information Obama will need our support all the way, as I said this is a different time now and politics should take a back seat for a while, again policy is not my specialty and I will defer to those who know more, keep in touch everyone we are a big tent family.
I am so happy! we did it!! I love all of you!!
This should be the happiest time ever here on PB, try to play nice and enjoy the moment.
thats all thats required 270 electoral votes, Johnny Mac can have 268 and lose!! are we clear on this just hours before we start... WE will know by 11 pm est. for sure!!
I am not sure, I was talking to one of my uncles last night to see what he was thinking right before the election. He told me he is voting for Sarah "he wants to see more of her she is hot and the old man wont make it through the first year" thats what he said. He says " it doesnt matter who is President so we might as well have a pretty face to look at" I honestly couldnt figure out what he really thinks but thats what he said. He also said if the lines are too long if wont vote at all so hopefully they are, as I have said before dont count on MO for Obama.
Obama is going to be great!! A solid President! 8 years of quality leadership.
will the big show in less than an hour help or hurt?
Thats what Tom Delay has called Obama, this is going to be their angle down the stretch, Obama is un-american, it seems pretty clear they only have fear left as a weapon and they will use it freely.
