OK so you want to vote and you have to vote democrat or republican. Why in god's name would you vote for John McCain?

Because he wants to be president?

He was tortured for 6 years at the Hanoi Hilton yet he advocates war and torture. Where was he when Caesar needed a successor. He could have spared us from Caligula and Nero ... or would he have been worse than Caligula and Nero.

The Roman Empire is dead and so are we if we continue to follow Bush doctrine.

A vote for Lassie would be better than a vote for mean McCain. Defense is one thing but bringing our anger to the rest of the world has resulted in Israeli, Russian, and Pakistani aggression. Because we are the only superpower everyone else thinks they can get away with their own "war on terrorism". Even if they are responsible for the hostilities.

Our troops in WWII helped bring peace to the world and we have forgotten our place and responsibilities. McCain will bring more hostility not less. And Bush doctrine has worked to destabilize the world in the pursuit of wealth. Democracy and capitalism are not the same.

Vote Obama.

On War:

Returning from his eighth trip to Iraq, McCain didn't back down on his promise to see the war through despite yesterday's tragic milestone of 4,000 deaths. "We're succeeding. I don't care what anybody says. I've seen the facts on the ground," the Arizona senator insisted a day after a roadside bomb in Baghdad killed four U.S. soldiers and rockets pounded the U.S.-protected Green Zone there, and a wave of attacks left at least 61 Iraqis dead nationwide.

On The Economy:

McCain wants to cut government spending and make the tax cuts for the wealthy permanent and eliminate the estate tax.  I ask you, where are we going to get the money to pay for the $2-billion per week war we're fighting, pay for VA benefits, bail out homeowners to avoid foreclosures, and give Americans the Social Security funds they've worked hard for and paid for?  It sounds like a bunch of smoke and mirrors to me.  You can't reduce revenue and increase costs then expect to have all the money needed for the social programs we have in place.

Who'll lose out ... not the rich.

His voting record on abortion:

Supports repealing Roe v. Wade. (May 2007)Voted YES on defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP.(Mar 2008)Voted YES on barring HHS grants to organizations that perform abortions. (Oct 2007)Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007) oted YES on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006)Voted NO on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)Voted YES on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life. (Mar 2003)Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000) Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999)Voted YES on banning human cloning. (Feb 1998)Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)Expand embryonic stem cell research. (Jun 2004)Rated 75% by the NRLC, indicating a mixed record on abortion. (Dec 2006)

Homeland Security:

Keep “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy - it works. (Jan 2000)Voted NO on limiting soldiers' deployment to 12 months. (Jul 2007Voted NO on preserving habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees. (Sep 2006)Voted NO on requiring CIA reports on detainees & interrogation methods. (Sep 2006)Voted YES on reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act. (Mar 2006)Voted YES on extending the PATRIOT Act's wiretap provision. (Dec 2005)Voted NO on restricting business with entities linked to terrorism. (Jul 2005)Voted NO on restoring $565M for states' and ports' first responders. (Mar 2005).

On Iran:

Strategic bombing of Iran OK only if imminent threat. (Dec 2007Congress can only declare war; not micromanage wars. (Dec 2007Keep military option open against Iran, even if no nukes. (Dec 2007No direct talk with Iran; talk is over-rated. (Dec 2007)Iran & Syria must not get nukes; they'll exterminate Israel. (Nov 2007)Iran is state sponsor of terrorism; no more evidence needed. (Nov 2007)Congressional consultation before attacking Iran's nukes. (Oct 2007Sanctions to prevent Iranian nukes; but don't count on UN. (Sep 2007Iran is sponsor of terrorism; US strike if they get nukes. (May 2007)

For those of you who can identify with the above issues you belong in the McCain camp.  If he is elected this is what we'll get.

There was a post recently where someone, who will remain nameless, posted another user's personal email address and their whole name in addition to their child's name. To me this goes beyond the realm of common decency. To publish personal information about someone who disagrees with your point of view out of spite and hatred.

I'm wondering how many other people feel this way also. Is this over the line or is it alright to post personal information about people on this site. I bring this issue up because I noticed that it happened again in a comment to a post just today. Someone revealed the full name of someone they disagree with.

Let me know if this is acceptable practice as I want to play by the rules but would like the playing field to be even.
Howard Dean and the DNC are to blame for the controversy swirling on this website. While I appreciate his pointing out McCain's deficiencies I would much rather see him heal the wounds that he's created by alienating Florida and Michigan.

I believe they were wrong in bucking the party I also believe the party is wrong in spreading out the primaries. Each state should vote on the same day to prevent undue influence and avoid promoting favorites.

He needs to include EVERY state in the primary process including Florida and Michigan and their delegates. Focus on cleaning the democrats house up and let the voters focus on taking on John McCain.

In short ... DO YOUR DAMN JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That the name is the Democratic Party. It is anything but. In a Democratic election the person with the most votes wins. The primaries have yet to be decided yet the party is divided.

I use the word party loosly as it really isn't a party it's two parties because there are two candidates. It is the Clinton Party and there is the Obama Party. It doesn't matter who gets the most votes in the primaries because it's really two different parties so both candidates can run as their own party.

There is one party though ... it's called the ME party. I'm in it for me and if my candidate happens to have less votes than the other than damn it I'll vote for MY candidate anyway.

This is the Putrid Party and FDR and JFK would be turning in their graves if they were here to witness the self destruction we bring to this site. It is a masochistic free for all that has Republicans laughing.

McCain will win in 2008, I'm certain of that. It is what the Republicans want and what the Putrid Party wants too. Congratulations on being an individual, the Republicans are a team.
does it take to screw in a lightbulb.

It'll never happen cause half of them will want to go clockwise and the other half counter clockwise.

There is no such thing as a democratic party. The republicans are going to cream us in November. I might as well write JFK in because he has a better chance than either Obama or Clinton. Republicans will at least vote for their democratically nominated candidate.
If you count all the votes (including delegates from the caucuses) then right now:

Obama has 16,039,607 votes.
Clinton has 15,989,939 votes (-49,668).
Obama has won 16 primaries and placed 2nd in 16.
Hillary has won 6 primaries and placed 2nd in 16 (-14).
Obama has won all but 1 caucus.
Hillary only won 1 caucus (-17).
Obama has 1590 delegates (not incl. FL & MI).
Clinton has 1424 delegates (not incl. FL & MI) (-166).
Obama would have 1729 delegates (with FL & MI).
Clinton would have 1623 delegates (with FL & MI) (-106).

I don't see how you can call Obama incapable of winning if he's been able to get more total votes than Clinton, win more primaries, win more caucuses, and gain more delegates (even including FL & MI). Respect the democratic process. The race is close but by every metric Obama is ahead. Or maybe Bush was on to something when he found a way to get elected even though, by all appearances, he should have lost.

Are democrats going to stoop to that level?
That a Republican, like John McCain, would be better than either Democratic candidate you need to look back at history.

The carnage the war in Iraq has caused, the lack of commitment to get Osama Bin Laden, the alienation of neutral nations and distancing by friendly nations. The corrupt politics and strong arm tactics of Tom Delay, Dick Cheney and the absolute mockery of "puppet" appointees to important positions (Alberto Gonzales, unqualified white house staffers, FEMA Directors ... the list goes on).

Combine that with the fact that we have depleted and over-extended our military and under-equipped our soldiers. Awarded contracts based on political affiliation and abandoned people in parts of the country where there was a difference of opinion with the president/vice president.

Life is harder for the poor and middle class and easier for the rich. We are no closer to energy independence and going hell bent for election (pardon the phrase) toward the melting of the polar ice caps and expansion of global warming.

I don't see how any Republican of good conscience (let alone professed Democrat) can vote Republican in this election. McCain should lose by a bigger margin than when Nixon and McGovern faced off.

We maim, torture, and kill anyone in our path and all some of us can think about is "my candidate didn't win". Grow up people, this election is about humanity and quality of life. The way were going our planet isn't even going to be here for our grandchildren.
There was a man named John McCain.
His whole outlook was quite insane.

He wants to run the country here.
With policies conceived in fear.

The world would be his hunting ground.
And peace on earth would not be found.

All evil doers would have to go.
So he'd be free to run the show.

A crisis point is where we're at.
Poor get killed and rich get fat.

In November you can make a change.
With hope that we may rearrange.

Our country's goals and policies
Let's stop the war I ask you please.

Vote Democrat, prevent the continuing hijack of our country by people who profit from the common citizens' suffering.

One more try. If your candidate does not get the nomination do you plan:

A. To vote Democrat?

B. To vote for a different party or write someone in?

C. To not vote?

I think this covers the bases. Please just provide a letter unless you're undecided.
In the general election do you plan to:

A. Vote for the Democratic candidate?

B. Write in a different candidate?

C. Abstain from voting?

D. Vote for the Republican nominee?

Please just put your choice down without qualification.
I'm looking for comments. Who is going to abstain from voting (or vote republican/write someone in) if their candidate loses the primary? Feel free to be as expressive as you want.
I've been reading the posts here for some time now and have become very discouraged with the animosity that I've seen. Petty insults and tearing people down to make oneself look better is the norm. I'm personally sick of it.

If someone wants to write a post espousing their candidate's virtues I'm all for it but if someone wants to rip into a candidate because they're afraid theirs isn't doing well then I'm going to be all over it like white on rice (this includes either side).

Negative campaigning has to go. I personally can't stand it and it's driven many a reasonable person away. The offenders (on both sides) know who they are. Unless you want to see my ugly face (and words) on all of your posts then you'll stop it now. This may be a self serving ultimatum but this place is even uglier than my face these days.

With this blog the 100,000 point level has been broken, and even though the points do not covert to cash they do show how much work you can do. If I the dial up boy can top 100,000 point level in six months then I know everyone else can do it too, so the more all of you use this website the more our right to freedom of speech is exercised. Please contribute your efforts as much as possible here, and rock n’ roll this country back to a democracy that we can all be truly proud to say is the best.
