Earlier this year, using the clout that only major broadcast networks seem capable of mustering, CBS News contacted the governments of all 50 states requesting their official records of death by suicide going back 12 years. They heard back from 45 of the 50. From the mountains of gathered information, they sifted out the suicides of those Americans who had served in the armed forces. What they discovered is that in 2005 alone -- and remember, this is just in 45 states -- there were at least 6,256 veteran suicides, 120 every week for a year and an average of 17 every day.

MY RESPONSE:
I am a vietnam vet
Ever since i got out in august 1974 i have had a tough time finding stable work. The only real job i had was the C.E.T.A. job = comprehensive employment training act.
i was given in N. Calif working for parks and recreation and then solid waste, where in 1975 in redway Calif I started a recycling center as i picked through trash to separate bottles and cans.
Since being a UCMC soldier i found that i am the kind of person, who wants to serve others. Its ingrained in me. Many call me nuts. I don't know how to work so called regular jobs. I have been a volunteer off and on ever since. I was fortunate in one way moving to Garberville calif where we had many pot growers. that gave me something to smoke to allow myself the ability to hide from my past. I was also told never to mention my service because people would hate me. I kept quiet until this past year. Along the last 33 years i had many stops in VA hospitals. Many times i had cut my wrist. I have scars all over my left arm. I over dosed on tylenol and had my stomach pumped and hung myself and became a cocaine user and over-dosed many times in the 80's. I was told in 1999 i had HEP-C from the injections to prevent it in boot camp. I prepared to die and began to drink hard again, only to find out i was one of the so called lucky ones (15%) who was actually immune to it. Why am i still alive in beyond me. I cut my wrist many times just to get a bed at the VA. However, some VA hospitals did offer me food to eat. Finally in 2004 i was sent a check after i got out. My only friends are those who have died.
Today i volunteer my time for the Obama campaign. I sleep on an 84 yr old womans couch and cook for her to get food. I am her friend and she appreciates me. The very old seem to understand and well they do need help. I have done this since 2004, when i went back to N. calif again to find hope or pot to hide from my past. Today i am in Phila pa suburbs helping another woman.
I am just one and i could go on and on and tell you about how when i got my check i bought a RV to live in but gas got too high so i gave it away to another vet who got a big check than me. Along the way i picked up hundreds of vets along the roads and highways and i fed them.
You people need to understand soldiers like my Dad a deceased 2nd WW vet, who was the second wave at normandy (D-Day) don't have the ability to fit in to so called normal life. Yes there are a few and some of them get involved in politics and try to help others or they get corrupt.
What we need is a place a farm a home where we can work together and then reach out to others from a place of safety. http://www.farmsnotarms.org/
I have heard recently about a farm that is in the works. I pray that it becomes a reality. Link

I would have never found these above sites without having volunteered for the Obama campaign.
Finally i will say i know how our soldiers feel to be in a war we should have never been in!

""Obama on Ethics and Lobbying Reform""
Throughout his political career, Barack Obama has fought for open and honest government. As an Illinois State Senator, he helped pass the state’s first major ethics reform bill in 25 years. And as a U.S. Senator, he has spearheaded the effort to clean up Washington in the wake of numerous scandals. In the first two weeks of the 110th Congress, Senator Obama helped lead the Senate to pass the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act, a comprehensive ethics and lobbying reform bill, by a 96-2 vote. This landmark bill was signed into law by the President in September 2007.

""Alone among the U.S. Presidential candidates"", Barack Obama is confronting the question of how to produce more accountable and effective politics in our democracy. His just-released Tech Plan (Download Obama Tech Plan) uniquely understands that the time, expertise and enthusiasm that ordinary people invest in making Wikipedia better, for example, can be transformed into practices to make government work better and more accountably. So he doesn't just call for making information more transparent to citizens; he wants to hear what we have to say and enable us to participate. The Plan calls for citizen engagement in the work of federal agencies and demonstrates respect for the intelligence and expertise of the American people. He calls for opening up the closed practices of government and using new technology to enable genuine citizen participation and engagement in our democracy. This is a major and unprecedented step. No other candidate “gets it.” They pay lip service to transparency. He proposes making government data available online as well as ensuring that agencies do their work in public. They talk about citizen congresses that would deliberate in quaint town hall meetings having nothing to do with real world politics or power. He proposes engaging citizens in the actual and ongoing work and decision-making of government -- not Americans talking to elected officials but Americans genuinely participating. They talk about technology and innovation. He offers a comprehensive broadband strategy, commitment to media diversity, and a proposal to improve patent quality, including the practice of rigorous, public peer review like Peer-to-Patent. They talk about strong IP. He balances his support of strong IP with recognition of the need to promote collaboration and innovation. I am excited about Obama’s Tech Plan. In fact, it should be called the “Democracy Plan.”
He alone does what a President should do, namely articulate a vision for democracy in the digital age.

Read More »My name is Michael Tiffany from Festus Missouri, and I wanted to post this blog to get to know people in the groups of the Democratic Partybuilder. In some ways I am just a guy from Missouri, but there are a few things about me you may find interesting as you will see later in this blog. I am not a woman, African American, Hispanic, Native American, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, gay, handicapped, veteran, or a whole host of other things, but what I am is someone that has seen a lot of people that have been oppressed. I have seen the greatest country on Earth barely lift a finger to do much about it, but I think that the Democratic Party has learned that they have to start doing the will of the people. This is why I got involved with the Democratic Party, and I have joined groups from all 50 states to reach out to people across America.
I love this country of course, but I am not one of those love it or leave it types, because I understand that we all love this country in our own way. I also know that if the people of the United States do not get the system under control we are going to have serious problems, and that we have to make changes for not just for ourselves, but for future generations that may not be able to change it for themselves. We have to see that all citizens are not oppressed, and that our children can grow up in a safe environment. That when they grow up that they can have good futures and that they are not stuck in a system that could careless about them.
Since I cannot be in all places at all times to help all of the group, so I plan to blog some opinion, and also links to news, politicians, and other resources that I come across on the Internet that I think could be valuable. I have been trained to do things like this over the last few years as you can see in the paragraph below, and I realize that information is power that Democrats can use to change the United States. I cannot post text links or active hyper texts links on this website for some strange reason even though I do not have any problem anywhere else on the Internet, and since I know how to make banners I will use them to link with in my blogs. They are descriptive in what the content is right there before you click, and allow the blog reader to decide if this is something they wish to view. I think that the eight Democratic Presidential candidates that are running here in 2007-2008 are all exceptional, and I will post several series of blogs with Banners for all of them. I will use the blog as an interface that lets the reader to access these sites easily. I believe in free speech for all including the candidates, and far too long people have complained that candidates do not talk about the issues. They felt they had little choice of candidate to choose from, and that the candidates just say catch phrases with no real position on the issues. This time it is different with the Internet being a place that you find more information on the candidates position on issues than has ever been seen by the human race, and that we have some of the best candidates seen here in the Democratic Party since John Kennedy. I know that some groups are specifically for a particular candidate, but free speech would dictate that all people should inform themselves to all of the candidates to truly decide who is best for this country. You should know why you like one candidate over another, and why you do not like other candidates, but certainly inform yourself to all the information that is available on the information superhighway that you are able. We should be taking advantage of the technological abilities that the Internet offers to inform people politically, and all someone has to do like me is point the way to this information to easily navigate this information. I will do this fairly and as evenly as possible for all of the candidates, and then move on to other subjects of relevance over time. If any group manager does like my blog postings they are free to take them down even though I hope that they will not do that, and if they do not want me in their group they are free to cancel my membership no hard feeling, but I hope that this will not happen either. All I can do is the best that I can do for the Democratic Party, and hope that people like what I am doing, or hope that it helps in someway.
I was the press director of two small unions for pizza delivery drivers, and I have about 3600 E-mail addresses for NBC, ABC, CBS, and other assorted reporters. I am offering them to all groups at the Democratic Partybuilder, and if you want a copy please e-mail me to send you a copy. These e-mail addresses have put the union and its officers on TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines, and depending on what your news story is it may generate lots of e-mails and phone calls from reporters. The E-mail addresses are a few years old at this time, so you will get a percentage of them that will bounce, and I have never taken the time to sort them out. If anybody wants a fresh copy they would have to do what I did in the first place, and that was to go to hundreds of website through thousands of pages to collect the E-mail addresses then enter them into an address book. You need to remember that many E-mail servers have limits on how many E-mail addresses can be entered into a BCC line, because of spamming rules that they had to impose since spamming became such a hot topic. AOL will not let you send more that 30 BCC E-mail per a single E-mail, and Yahoo has a limit of 100 per hour per Yahoo account, but if you have more than one Yahoo account then you can send 100 per hour per account. I would advise that anyone keep the E-mail addresses separate in different accounts otherwise they are unmanageable, and you will loose track of which network you are dealing with. You can create user names something like mygroupforNBC@gmail.com or mygroup4ABC@aol.com as an example, and load the E-mail addresses into the right account for what they are labeled as which network they belong, or make sub files in a single address book. Please do not spam these reporters if you choose for me to send them to you, but they are public E-mail addresses that they have posted for the public to send possible news stories. If you would like a copy of the reporters E-mail addresses E-mail me, and in the subject line copy and paste "Reporters E-mail Address Request" for me to know exactly what you are E-mailing me about.
I have been using computers for ten years, and have been online for seven years, so I have gotten a pretty good idea of how to use computers to accomplish goals. I have been attending ITT-Tech for three quarters for Computer Networking, and I am working towards at least a Bachelors degree. With my dealings with the APDD and AUPDD I have learned that a few good computer nerds can move Internet mountains, and can actually bring real world changes, so I know that some very committed people can bring changes to our political system. I will be happy to help in this process anyway that I can time permitting, so feel free to contact me directly if you have any ideas? I have joined several other groups at the Partybuilder that I think will be helpful to people and I will be looking them over further shortly to recommend them to others in future blogs.
I am a member of the Grassroots Event Performers group at the PartyBuilder, and if you are a politician looking for entertainment for an event, or a group looking for entertainment for an event please check it out? As well, if you are a band looking to perform at political events please join the group, and John will work with you to get performances for your band at available events?
I am also a member of the Blue Blaze Graphics Irregulars group at the PartyBuilder, and if you need any graphic work done please contact them. I will also place some banners below that you can click though for these groups and for the American Union for Pizza Delivery Drivers, the pizza drivers petition, and the Association Against Aggressive Driving that is my new website. I hope that you will take a look at them, and that you will take a few minutes to join in where you wish?
I should also mention that I have a dial up Internet connection, and working online can be a slow process. I hope to have a high speed Internet connection some time after the first of the year, and will be better able to participate in more activities then.
Thank You.
Michael Tiffany
