Hoo Bangin

I like the way that sounds. It has nothing to do with my post. Unless my post is "Hoo bangin, Mr.Edwards?"
His appearance in San Jose was a total disappointment. Except for the assistance of one of his very attractive associates (if I wasn't attached and maybe twenty years his junior..) in helping me push my way to a picture, the John Edwards day I had in mind was a washout. He arrived forty minutes late for what was supposed to be an hour-long event to give a prepared speech for twenty minutes that although funny, liberally sprinkled with charm and a few "when I am president" promises, was not enough to make up for the crowded room and late LATE appearance. You aren't president yet, Mr.Edwards. Proceed with caution. I know you need money. That's why twice a week I get emails from someone in your name asking to donate, give, contribute. Not gonna happen until you, in the words of Mystikal, "shake ya ass, watch yo 'self, shake ya ass, show me whatcha workin for". I'm intrigued by your college program, pleased that you want to give housing vouchers to low income families to move into better neighborhoods, but tell me exactly how you're going to provide and account for jobs for low-skilled workers, what are you going to do for the high-density low-income neighborhoods once families move out, how are you going to AGGRESSIVELY address global warming (i know! fund a program to teach high school dropouts how to install solar panels!jobs to abolish energy dependence!)and more. And for gods sake, don't be late next time. Other than that...you're good.

Joe Biden spoke today

in San Francisco, and although I was unable to attend (I have a midterm tomorrow-don't judge me!) two of my friends and fellow College Dems did go and spend as much time as possible seeing the honorable Biden speak. From their euphoric faces in pictures (ah, camera phones) and seriously positive evaluations, I conclude there is much more to Joe Biden and his chances in 2008 than meet the eye. I would rather have my friend list his skills than I, as she is much more informed and partial to his position, but I shall try: he has a strong foreign relations policy, considers it imperative that the first hundred days in office be a smooth transition from old (awful cruddy governance-my own words) to (progressive liberating wonderful-again, my own) new leadership, and he has always known what to do about the situation in Iraq. I'm not sure what exactly his environmental policy is-and for me that's the do-or-die question-but I just looked it up, and here's a direct quote from the official JB website:

Joe Biden's first priority is energy security. He believes we can strengthen security by reducing our oil consumption by increasing fuel efficiency, transitioning to farm-grown fuels like ethanol and biodiesel, and expanding the use of renewable energy. But we cannot stop there. Joe Biden would make a substantial national commitment by dramatically increasing investment in energy and climate change research and technology so that that United States becomes the world leader in developing and exporting alternative energy.

Sounds good to me. I'd love to see him speak live one day. Maybe in Santa Cruz? Joe Biden, would you like to go out for some ice cream? I'll buy you chocolate chip (that was the last question asked in San Francisco today. It's his favorite flavor).

Hi Everybody!

This is my splash into the pool-my introduction to the world of online party-building and politics. I'm fresh from the California Democratic Convention in San Diego, full of vim and vigor and the wish to connect to my fellow Democrats. I don't remember exactly how I stumbled upon Democrats.org, but I'm certainly glad I did, and in my College Dems at UCSC meeting at 8 o'clock tonight I will be sure to tell my fellow members about my newest power tool to tap into the collective Democrats knowledge base, form valuable coalitions, spread awareness and replace the donkey in the White House. Things are looking good! More to come...
