Here's a Slate "Bushism of the Day" that flew under the radar. Bush is responding to a question about what advice he would give the next president:

"Take the Middle East seriously because that's the center of -- that's the place where people get so despondent and despair that they're willing to come and take lives of U.S. citizens." -- on advice he would give the next president, Washington, D.C., May 12, 2008.

the pentagon has released the names of 8 soldiers and marines who died this week in iraq and afghanistan. age 18, 2 at age 20, age 21, age 23, age 24, age 26 and age 33. may god guide them gently to heaven, and may god bring peace and comfort to their friends and families.

Dear Annie, Michigan & Florida - Make Sure They Have a Voice!

Millions of voters in Florida and Michigan are depending on you to help make sure they have a voice in this race. Will you stand up for them today?

Thanks to your efforts, thanks to the hundreds of thousands of people who have already spoken out, the DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee is meeting May 31 to make a decision about whether or not the votes in Michigan and Florida will count.

Now I need you to urge the DNC to make the right decision on May 31. I need you to remind them that in the Democratic Party, we count every vote.

Tell the Democratic National Committee to count the votes of Florida and Michigan.

On May 31, the DNC has a chance to make it clear that the people of Florida and Michigan have a voice in our party. The decision is especially critical given the important role these states will play in November.

And your voice could make the difference for the millions of people who went to the polls in those two states to make their choice for president.

Stand with me today and tell the DNC to count the votes in Florida and Michigan.

I have consistently said that every vote must count. It is such an important principle in our party. I really appreciate you standing up for the values we share.

Thank you,

Hillary

jeanne shaheen, the first and only female governor to have served in the state of new hampshire, is challenging john "ugh" sununu, a rethuglican, for his state senate seat.  shaheen was and is immensely popular in this state and is mounting a tough campaign.  you can visit her website here:

ellen degeneres and portia de rossi are getting married!  she just announced it on her show this morning!  california recently overturned the law against gay marriage, and ellen is wasting no time.  congrats to ellen and portia!

msnbc continues to blur the lines of actual journalism and complete horsepucky by interviewing tonya harding.  the suggestion, however unsubtle, is that clinton would resort to harding-like tactics against barack obama.  our champions of truth, the watchdogs at mediamatters.org, cut through the baloney.

We are in the homestretch. There are just three weeks left to compete in the final contests. Help keep up the momentum.Dear Annie,

There are some people out there who want to declare this race over now, before all the ballots have been counted or even cast. There are some who say they don't know why I'm in this race. So let me tell you why I'm still running.

I'm in this race for everyone who needs a champion. For the hardworking families who are losing sleep over gas prices and grocery costs and mortgage payments and medical bills -- but who never lose that American can-do spirit and optimism.

I'm in this race for the more than 16 million people like you who have supported me -- for the people who have put their hearts into winning this race. You never gave up on me, and I'll never give up on you.

We are in the homestretch. After sixteen months, there are only three weeks left to compete in the final contests. With your help I'm going to keep fighting until every last American has a chance to be heard, and as we learned last night in West Virginia, I know we can win.

Your support has made the difference for this campaign before -- you know you can make the difference for me again. Please help keep our campaign moving forward.

Contribute now to keep our campaign going strong.

I'm also in this race because I have the best chance of beating John McCain in November and putting America on the right track.

We proved something in West Virginia last night -- a state every Democratic president has won since 1916. And we proved something in a few other battleground states that have a history of picking presidents. Pennsylvania. Ohio. Arkansas. New Hampshire. New Jersey. New Mexico. Nevada. And, yes, Michigan and Florida.

I am in this race, and so are you, because we both know the stakes in this election are too high to stay on the sidelines.

So let's keep going together, you and me. Let's keep driving our campaign forward, and let's keep winning.

Make a contribution today to help me win.

I want to thank you again for the incredible generosity of spirit you have shown over the course of this campaign. Together, you and I are going to make history.

Thank you,
Hillary

could this man be any more annoying?  mediamatters.org details chris matthews' latest foray into offensive, sexist, misogynistic behavior.  i thought he hit rock bottom when he groped ellen.  i was incorrect.
