I share the concern of the ever increasing debt, but I do believe it is necessary to help the auto industry. As each group of workers become unemployed, the amount of money in that community, state and eventually our entire country disappears. As the ability to purchase decreases, it becomes necessary for more unemployment and the economy continues to decline.
It is not all the fault of the autoworkers. The union must negotiate with management. Management had a responsibility to determine if they could afford the contract, before they signed it. Also,it was not the average worker who determined design, mpg, etc of the autos.
We cannot continue to begrudge those who make more or less in the same type of employment. It is detrimental to all of us. If USA becomes a nation where industry locates wherever they can get workers for the least amount of money, we would all soon be below the poverty level.
It has been a practice of states and municipalities to try to sway location of business based on lucrative offers of tax breaks, construction of new highways,grants.etc.-all at no charge to get a new ( to that area) employer. All those offers are financed by all taxpayers. If this is not just a relocation, it is not a new job-your gain at another's loss.Where is the United in that? Please consider that the fallout of industry closures may eventually mean the loss of your own job.
Some people are angry that people in foreclosure may receive help. That has yet to occur, but ,if anybody becomes unemployed, they may find they are no longer able to meet there obligations.Even as the Fed has reduced mortgage rates and tried to increase available credit, if people cannot or barely manage payments, they certainly cannot do it unemployed. Also,as the unemployment increases, foreclosures increase,
property values go down, the need for services we all need goes up. Only the employed will be taxed, so again, keeping others working is to the benefit of all in the United States.

I wrote something about this recently and received no comments. I will try again.
I certainly want President Obama to have a great Inauguration. But I think given the overall reaction of the US public toward the blatant greed, and obvious ignorance of the suffering citizens are experiencing, it is important that the Committee consider this in planning events.
It is usually expensive and a very over the top exhibition of the wealth of some. This will not be received well. Someway, the Inaugural activities must show that all the promises that have been made to change the government from working for the wealthy and ,if something trickles down - good enough. We all made a commitment in this campaign to work for a more honest and equal country. Here's our first chance to show it wasn't just talk.
Also, Jan. 19th is Martin Luther King, Jr Day. A day when his dream is just one day away from a giant step in that long struggle. But, as great as tha is, the struggle continues for many on various issues.
Let's celebrate but let us also show that ,this time ,it will not just be all about money=power.

This may be not be a feasible idea- but I thought I'd put it out here anyway. I've emailed the idea to the Obama site, but I don't know how soon they look at them. Anyway, I was thinking with the economy so bad ,food pantries have little to distribute and as unemployment increases the need will increase. I guess this may be more symbolic than helpful ,but it could become a tradition. First, I thought that for the millions going to DC, it would be difficult to take a can of food to donate. Then ,I thought if the Obama team was interested, perhaps designations to give even $1.00 to legitimate food pantries could be identified. Then, I thought, that for those not going to Washington, perhaps like the prior viewing parties, local groups might request that those attending bring a nonperishable good or donation. If done nationally, it could be a nice complement to the big celebrations and show that we intend to help people.
Then I thought, I wonder if the big celebrations might have additional food that could be donated to something like Second Harvest that accepts food from restaurants and uses it at soup kitchens. This is extra prepared food that has not been served, but would otherwise be put in the garbage. I also, wondered, if there is extra food when there are White House Dinners.I wonder if that could also be donated ?.
And, I thought, at the large government buildings with cafeterias, perhaps they could also adopt this. I don't know all the regulations or if it is possible, but I feel each little thing helps. It would also help the environment, because there would be less garbage to dispose.
The worst part of this idea- I live in an area that I couldn't even host a viewing, because my TV may not carry it.If you don't like the food pantry idea, you could promote it in terms of a need in your area or your concern.

Economists will undoubtedly be able to explain why this is wrong, so I'll be watching.
Today- I don't really care who caused this mess with the economy. I don't want to hear anybody testify about the cause, the plan ,the change of plan, or any industry or business ask for money. Nor am I interested in the G7 then G20 meetings. I think the best plan is to stop trading on the stock market immediately, before the average American has nothing left. If we continue to lose at the current rate, it won't matter if loans are available or the auto, financial ,housing, insurance or any other business has been saved. The bottom line is ,We won't have any money to buy anything but the absolute essentials-and maybe not those.
I know today, I decided there will be no Holiday spending.I had planned to purchase gifts, but that will not happen now. Do you think other citizens are making the same decision. As the market began to fall, the advice from all those who were supposed to know- advised that people just wait it out. Now--my investment is almost completely gone.I was waiting ,as was the common advice. I know many people in the same situation. So now, I don't care who caused it- I think we need to stop the stock market until things settle. It has been done before.

I hope she does not accept the offer, not because I think she will run for Pres. in 2012. I'm sure she has the background and I know she can be diplomatic and gracious, but, hopes to get policy into reality depend on a Congress to vote the budget appropriations, approve the Secretary of the various Departments and hopefully, get some Supreme Court Justice nominations approved. To do that ,we need strong Democrats in the House and Senate. If we lose some of our most influential and powerful Senators and Representatives to Cabinet positions, then who will be able to push the policies and nominations to realization? Also, I believe that the Governor;s in the respective States would appoint the replacements-not necessarily Democrats.
I do believe that HRC will make the decision she believes best serves this country. I do believe ,she is Capable and would do a great job as SOS.

It's time. We need to awake some morning to the news that all Americans now have National Health Care. No endless hearings, which only give insurance lobbyists time to create defeat due to their very well planned and funded commercials and misinformation.
We can wake up to hear that the United States has taken part ownership in banks and who knows which other industries before this is over.
As more people are unemployed, there will be a greater need for some type of health coverage. Although COBRA helps, many find they can barely afford it.The government could say OK ,starting today everybody has coverage. It will be the same for all-old,young,poor ,employed ,unemployed ,wealthy and will be covered in income taxes. That is fair. No pools of more likely to need care= higher costs. Everybody withe same benefits. All doctors would be included because this will be the health insurance of the nation.Large companies will not be able to negotiate lower charges for operations and procedures than smaller insurances or those not insured. It makes no sense that a knee replacement varies in cost dependent on the insurance you have, and may in fact cost the most, if you have no insurance. I'm not just talking about an individual's out-of-pocket cost. When Medicare was being established, I believe, it was Johnson, who insisted that it include all Senior Citizens, otherwise, it would become an insurance for the poor and doctors and care would not be on par with the more wealthy. By including everybody in a new National insurance, the playing field would be level- coverage the same, payment for procedure the same, all doctors and hospitals in the plan, the healthy and those with more needs all in the same plan. By including everybody, the cost is averaged because ,while there will be some needing more care, there will some using little or no benefits. What plan? During the campaign a plan the same as Congress was mentioned. I think that would be fine.
This idea will appeal to employers large and small. Small business always says this is a cost that would force them to close. Large business would be more competitive with business in other nations, which have national health care and therefore it is not part of their production cost. .Employees would not be constantly concerned that they are losing health benefits or that the health care is costing them more in larger deductibles, copays and excluded items. We might actually have better employer/employee relations. People could work at a job they enjoyed, rather than being bound in something they dread, but " it has good health benefits." Yes, people would still work, because they will have other bills for food, rent or mortgage, clothes, education.
Insurance lobbyists would be out of business. However, we would still need the people to submit claims, process claims and payment. So all those jobs would still exist. As it exists now, Medicare has given that over to other providers to process. Constant calls to insurers to see if a procedure is covered and the now impossible job of knowing which insurance covers what and which hospital or doctor a patient can see would be lifted from the patient/patient family It is a confusing mess, now. We have plenty of doctors and facilities, so we would not face long waiting periods for procedures experienced in other countries. All the doctors won't just move to another country. We would not need to worry about HMO's and PPO's and doctors and hospitals opting out.Perhaps, rural areas would get improved coverage, because, again all would be equal in coverage. Now, in rural areas, there is a shortage of doctors, because so many are uninsured.
There will be some complaints, but, on the whole, once it begins, people will see it works. If my income taxes are a little higher, at least, I will know it is for something that I use and I will know it is there, if I am unemployed and cannot afford insurance. Also, no problem ,if traveling ,moving, etc. So what do you think?

Obama has been attacked for saying that he would talk with the Taliban.
Now W wants to have his admin. do just that. I hope they don't,because
they will undoubtedly say something offensive or promise something we should not do. At this late stage, his admin, has no business, making agreements with other countries.
When Obama voted against funding bills on the war, because they did not include a time schedule for leaving, he was accused of endangering our troops. The Iraqi govt. has now demanded that we be out of their country no later than 12/31/2011.This time, I think that W should not promise we will stay that long. That, like all long term decisions now, should not be committed to now. It should be the decision of the Obama admin. If pushed, he could guarantee ,we will definitely be gone then and possibly sooner. I think that given the Iraqi govt. has plenty of money in it's coffers, they must pay for our costs to be there and rebuild their own infrastructure ,starting now.I think, they would be anxious then ,that we leave even sooner. Just think what the Obama admin, could do for our country ,with all that money!
Since Gov. Palin & McCain has said that Sen. Stevens should step down,I think Gov. Palin be held to a promise, right now, that she will not appoint herself as his replacement- should Stevens somehow manage to win. Sorry Alaska, but, we don't want your Governor in DC in any capacity. Likewise, I believe that W should be restricted from pardoning any of his cronies or somehow retaining the right to executive privilege for his admin. after 1/19/2009.
Since W and King Henry have started socialism or nationalization of banks, I see absolutely no reason for the taxpayers, who are paying for the bailout of the greedy, to be denied national health insurance.
Other countries have it, The people of this country deserve it. Our tax dollars are used constantly for causes we do no approve,it's time, we get something for our money.A plan for all Americans- not just the poor or children or the elderly, those with certain diseases or pre-existing conditions. A plan, with the level of coverage that Congress receives- for everybody. It is insane that so many insurance plans exist even within the same carrier, that billers, doctors, and certainly patients do not know what is covered or the cost they may incur. IT IS TIME FOR OBAMA AND IT IS TIME FOR ALL THESE CHANGES NOW!!! Also, This should have been noted earlier- GOOD EDUCATION THROUGH COLLEGE ALSO NATIONALIZED! This is the way to build this country and our future. Read More »

I know Palin's clothes issues, is,yesterday, and unimportant. But, if the true intention was to donate "the clothes after this is over" was that the concession, that it will be Nov.5th 2008?
First he started with he would stay in Iraq 100 years to win. Then last week ,he was thumbing his chest about knowing how to get Bin Laden and that he would get him. Now, he's way back to the 60's Cuban Missile crisis. The first thing, he seems to have forgot is that he had nothing to do with the decisions made by the Kennedy administration. He was , in fact, in the military and would only have done as instructed by President Kennedy. He always wants to make threats to other countries and terrorists. He doesn't get the fact that only increases hatred toward this country. He is the one that may as well paint a big target on USA. Like W on the ship proclaiming victory and with a smirk saying bring it on- well, folks-they brought it on and we are still stuck in Iraq. The only thing McCain wants to do is fight/war with terrorists and countries ,even if they weren't a threat. He doesn't even realize that this country no longer has the money to continue a war. The bank is broke.
And John, were you to be elected, it would be your first crisis in that chair also. You were not "Commander in Chief" ,you have not made that type of top leadership idea either. Your past performance and current rants, indicate, you will leap to the only thing you know -war.

I wonder if John McCain has heard that Joe the Plumber, was not exactly truthful in his pretense of buying a company and his income. He still continually refers to this individual, smiling and acting like this man has proved him correct. Does he not know that the public knows "Joe" is not even close in income to the point that he might have paid increased taxes under Sen. Obama's plan. In fact, true figures, show that he would benefit.
McCain laughingly refers to Joe. McCain is the joke. He is not even on top of this, so why does he think he would handle a crisis? He looks confused. I guess I would be ,too. At one time ,he was the candidate. Now, people are more interested in Palin. As McCain continues talking about Joe, it's starting to sound like McCain is campaigning for "Joe the Plumber."

In this hurried and tense political time, let us all take time to keep Sen. Obama and his grandmother in our hearts. It is extremely difficult to deal with seeing our parents/grandparents failing. It is very emotional and he should be given some privacy in this time.
In the meantime, we cannot lessen our efforts on his behalf. Also, we cannot let McCain or the GOP (and any of their separate group names) misrepresent Sen. Obama's policy. Also, we should see, if Sen.McCain and Palin will reduce character attack, now.If not, it shows they understand very little about the feelings and needs of people. A factor that will undeniably show the way in which they would deal with the problems in this country. If they cannot stop attack ads, then, it really means, they will stick with the old GOP idea of help business and wealthy. They will not put people and their needs first.

Did you notice that Sen. Obama who was against the war originally, had his patriotism questioned, but stated that a pullout from Iraq was a must and was ,of course denounced by GOP, Bus and McCain? Then , as it became clear that his campaign was winning, Bush started to indicate a timeline to leave Iraq might be a possibility. Now 2011,is much , much too far away, but still, they tried to get in on the premise that we finally pullout.Sen. Obama has spoken for the need for jobs in this country and the need for money budgeted to the infrastructure for many months. Recently, Speaker Pelosi, said a 2nd stimulus was needed, including money for infrastructure. Immediately the GOP was against that idea, but yesterday, Ben Benanke also suggested that a second stimulus may be needed with monies for infrastructure projects.
It would seem the GOP has no original ideas, but when they determine a backing for Sen.Obama's policies and Dem. initiatives, they try to present the idea as part of their policy.

Newt Gingrich is out today proclaiming that the real issue from the debate will be that Americans will see that Obama wants to redistribute wealth. Further, he contends that the people do not want a politician to decide who gets their money. What a liar he is and always has been. This is the GOP message- Obama will take your hard earned money and decides that others get the benefit. It's called government and taxes. Every administration that supports any law that funds a program, changes a tax deduction,or spends this country into generations of debt in a war started on false information redistributes wealth.
The GOP with trickle down, tax breaks for the wealthy and deregulation of business has effectively caused the average, after adjusted for inflation, wages to remain virtually stagnant for 34 years, according to the the Center for Economic policy and Research report of 9/1/08. Fortune 500 in it's July 2008 report found that the average CEO of major US business makes 100 time thee average worker yearly.Until the late 1980's ,it reported that the difference was 39-40 times more yearly. Clearly, laws and taxes have worked better for the wealthy recently. They had friends in high places that supported ideas and policies that redistributed more wealth to the wealthy.
Those of us, who did not benefit during that period still had to pay taxes based on the laws they legislated. Long time capital gains reduced rate of taxation helped people who had income from for instance,, stocks held for over 1 year. Those of us who just had bank accounts or CD interest, paid taxes on the whole amout- no special break because the interest accrued in one year-yet, the deposits may have been long term.
We cannot permit the GOP to play to their false representation to middle Americans that Obama will decide who gets to keep their hard earned money. His plan is more fair to the majority of the public, because the majority of the public is much, much larger than the number of very wealthy. Likewise, I know businessowners that have the best health insurance, but do nothing to contribute toward health insurance for their employees. They get new vehicles, put a magnetic ad on,that is removable at any time, bingo- a business expense that can be depreciated.
Because this time policy may really focus on health care for those who cannot afford it and education and retraining to make people qualified for better paying jobs , the GOP is again trying to cause division between the classes and hope that people will vote greed and that a large number will think that McCain will let them decide how they will spend their money. It's a sham and it invites class and race division.
This must be shown for what it is- racism and the old story that the poor are poor because they are lazy. THIS IS THE TRUE MESSAGE THEY ARE SENDING>Redistribution of wealth by a politician is just more negative.

In times of difficulties and confusion, a leader should not be creating additional fear, using time trying to divert citizen attention on the inflammatory remarks against an individual.A true leader would seek to present a realistic plan to solve the real problem, reassure and calm the people.
John McCain is fond of saying, he is a leader, but her has not focused on the real problems facing this country. His campaign wants to continue to enrage people via character assassination and totally misrepresenting the policies of Sen. Obama. Is that a leader?

party. If you examine, McCain's policies all start by protecting big business wishes for smaller government - fewer regulations. He was in favor of removing the rules enacted after the Great Depression. They were created to separate and provide oversight of banking, insurance and financial markets. Deregulation was one of the reasons that the current financial crisis reached the proportion it has. Deregulation was a reform , but it was not a good change. In fact, that slogan of smaller government has resulted in reduction and suspension of safety inspections, leaving Americans increasingly unprotected everyday.
more than just expenditures on defense. It is necessary to fund those regulatory agencies andd much needed infrastructure. The needs of the citizens within this country cannot continue to be neglected.A true leader and reformer would recognize this and move forward by starting to put this country and the average American first.
This was also given to the local Obama/Biden office in New Kensington, Pa. I cannot send in as letter to the editor, because they will only print 1 per individual in 30 days. The local office may submit and anyone who finds any portion of this usefuel= free to use)

When the foreclosures began, the individual homebuyer was blamed. Nothing done.
When the financial industry began to fail, government ,with little concern about increased national debt, considered it an urgent crisis.
Bailout passed - worry about debt later.
Still problems in the financial area, US government becomes part owner of banks - Bank nationalization.
When people don't have health insurance and prices continue to rise faster than income, National Health Care is an outrageous idea! Too costly.
Perhaps the banks can make loans, soon.Who can afford them? The average worker facing foreclosure, is still in debt and has no prospect of increased income.
Unemployment continues to rise - who can make any unnecessary purchase?
Business will be back for more money or ultimately fail -unless government begins to direct funding to public works projects that provide employment.
The Republicans first response to the possibility of need for additional funding - not if it's for public works projects.

Sarah Click those red shoes- your back in Alaska. I'm sorry for those of you stuck with her there. Hopefully, you can find a way to impeach her or at least end her political career. It's obvious, she has loved all the attention. I don't want to see her elevated by the conservative, evangelicals to continue her influence. Good luck.
John likes the name Joe, I guess. His campaign has used " average Joe "," Joe six pack" and "Joe the Plumber". I like the name Joe, too.
JOE BIDEN our QUALIFIED Democrat Vice President
John McCain said that he has always rebuked inflammatory remarks, even those not in his campaign. Has he listened to his running mate? She is the cheerleader of starting and continuing the inflammatory remarks. He referred to her as energizing the campaign. But she has energized via the inflammatory rhetoric.
John McCain noted several times that Sarah Palin understands the special needs and concerns of autism.I thought her infant had Down Syndrome.
John McCain said he would not raise taxes, but his health plans wants health benefits received via employment taxed. That's a tax directly on the American worker.
John McCain has been for deregulation, now he insists he has been for reform ,regulations, etc.
John McCain tried to link Acorn to Obama, John McCain was a keynote speaker at an Acorn event. He further tried to indicate that there needed to be investigation so that votes were not placed illegally.
Does he remember the whole Florida 2000 countable votes, which went to the Supreme Court that changed the choice of the voters, electing George Bush?
John McCain has insisted that nuclear power is safe and waste can be handled safely. It is documented that US and British ships routinely dumped nuclear waste in the ocean!!! Also, let's see if he starts by building a nuclear plant or waste storage site in Arizona.
John McCain said that he would not use abortion as a litmus test in the selection of Supreme Court candidates. Has he listened to the inflammatory comments of his running mate.
John McCain , in the end ,had no real policy that would show that in fact he would change the path we are on.
John McCain has said that "no child left behind " had problems , but it was a start. All children have been left behind in this country.
Our education system does not begin to measure up to that in many foreign countries.
I'm sure there were more errors, but those are the ones, I caught.

Today, so far, the market is going up. For the sake of all those stuck with 401(k)s, I hope it continues. But, last week, Wall St official admitted that just that 1 week of losses was the equivalent of 10 years of savings. When this started, they blamed individuals for being to far in debt with loans they couldn't afford and maxed out credit cards. So the government is giving money to big businesses that approved those loans and buying into banks. That may give people a little confidence in their bank, but if you were that far in debt, how has it helped you ?
Yes, the banks may feel more inclined to lend to one another, but if I could not afford a loan last week and I'm up to my neck in debt, then either the banks will have to give more "bad loans" or there will still be no more money for individuals to afford all the things they were told they could not afford last week. So if the public still does not buy cars ,houses ,or spend on holiday gifts, how do the businesses make any money? So then more closures and more unemployment and business asks for more money and what did we accomplish ,except more government debt? Obama's plan to invest in infrastructure would promote employment ,in addition to doing things that are very much needed in this country. This is the only way that the economy can grow.Trickle down was a failure and will fail as now packaged in the bailout. The average person(which is in the majority ) if employed and increasing income can and will put more back into the economy than a few millionaires.

|Republicans just love trickle down economics, originally brought to you in the Raegan administration. After all the recent financial mess, they still cling to it.They cannot begin to conceive of any policy that does not start with trickle down. They have had no problem giving money to big business, but they continue to blame the individual homebuyers for the foreclosure problem. They always applaud small government,(read no rules for big business) ,but we seem to constantly hear of problems because inspections and audits have been infrequent or suspended. As a result, taxpayers are increasingly unprotected and with decreased services.
Changing Social Security to privatization, as McCain has suggested, again decreases safeguards , permits businesses to decrease responsibilities and creates 401(k) type programs. Those did not fare too well recently.Yet, thhis is McCain's reform. His health insurance plans tax you for health insurance received as a employment benefit. If you are currently uninsured, the "tax credit" goes directly to private insurance companies, only after you have paid for coverage. They had no problem with starting to nationalize banks, but national health insurance to cover all, is totally unthinkable to them After all the recent money to big business, the Republican response to a second stimulus package is that no money be used to fund major public works programs. No, that would not be good, because the average worker would have increased income much more quickly than the years it take with trickle down programs.
McCain's ideas , my friends ,are based on the Faailed Republican Legacy. It was always a sham for the average worker. No "reform" which is still based on that idea will ever bring good change. Read More »

This may have been posted previously .I've been off for a few days.
I can't find site now, but I know for certain that in one interview about Troopergate, after her usual nonsense, she said " We look forward to working on(I forget what) in Alaska. Is she still acting as Governor, or was that a slip that McCain/Palin now expect defeat?
